Categorization of soundtracks as Madonna albums

I think the inclusion of the Who's That Girl soundtrack (with only four Madonna songs) and the Evita soundtrack (which features a large cast) in a Madonna discography is problematic. In these two cases, Madonna was a contributing artist to the soundtrack album, but strictly speaking, they are not Madonna albums. The I'm Breathless album is unique in that Madonna appears on every track.

If the aim of this discography is to list every album to which Madonna has contributed at least one song, then there are several others that need to be listed here, including The Next Best Thing soundtrack, which contains two original Madonna songs. Rhino79 (talk) 10:16, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Not done The source you have provided doesn't seem to support the 449,000 number (I can't find it anywhere on the page) but seems to be showing the weekly sales. Where did you get 449,000? Did you do the math yourself, or is there another source somewhere for it?
Also, is it standard practice to constantly update the numbers, or do the numbers listed represent the sales during a fixed number of weeks? ~Adjwilley (talk) 22:31, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

"Live albums" section chart positions

People need to decide whether to include either album chart positions or DVD chart positions in that section. Some country's positions come from album charts, others are from DVD charts, and some seem to be a mixture of both (with the highest positions selected, obviously). Those albums were released on multiple formats, but that section is clearly labelled live albums, so it's only fair that album chart positions are included. A separate section for Video album/DVD chart positions should then be added to Madonna videography, if people still wish to do so. Homeostasis07 (talk) 00:59, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

True Blue: 24 Million WorldWide

According to "Warner Music Italy" the "Official" sales of True Blue are 24,000,000 copies worldwide.

Old Worldwide Album Sales

According to Warner Music Italy, "True Blue" has sold 24 million Worlwide:

http://www.arbenina.com/pics/trueblue.jpg

According to Music week "The immaculate Collection" has sold around 30 million copies and "GHV2" has sold 7 million copies.

http://www.madonnatribe.com/news/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1302

Other sales are underrated, (10 years old sales).

which countries to list?

Is there any overarching guidance on which countries to list in the chart overview? The current selection seems quite arbitrary (why Austria and Switzerland, but not bigger markets like Japan and The Netherlands?). Since this is the English-language Wikipedia, I can imagine having only English-speaking countries in the list. Alternatively, there could be an overview of the 10 biggest music markets (Japan, US, Germany, UK, France, Australia, Canada, Italy, Netherlands and Brazil in 2010, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_music_industry_market_share_data#IFPI_2010_data).

Why is there no singles category?

I mean really am i supposed to go through every album link to find how her singles charted, I DEMAND SOMEBODY WITH ABSOLUTELY NO LIFE MAKE A SINGLES SECTION SO I CAN SATISFY MY CURIOSITY — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.157.114.52 (talk) 00:51, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Let's discuss Madonna's album sales

300 million sales: albums or records? Which one is right? Madonna is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. And Guinness World Records says in their official record page: (Best-selling female recording artist) http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/best-selling-female-recording-artist : Madonna (USA, b. Madonna Ciccone) has sold more than 300 million albums in her career since debuting with her self-titled release in 1983. That means Madonna has sold more than 300 million albums since The First Album: Madonna (1983) I talk to Guinness World Records on Facebook. And they said: Hello Metehan, The record title of 'Best-selling female recording artist' is specifically related to album sales. Monitoring album sales is standard for the music industry and for this particular record category. As you can see from our record page, we already state that this for album sales http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/best-selling-female-recording-artist Madonna (USA, b. Madonna Ciccone) has sold more than 300 million albums in her career since debuting with her self-titled release in 1983. So, that means Madonna is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. and Guinness World Records says 300 million sales are specifically related to album sales. and again that means her update album sales are +300 million. Because Guinness World Records is only official institution for this record. And they said clearly Madonna has sold more than 300 million albums since Madonna album.

Their official record page: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/best-selling-female-recording-artist : Madonna (USA, b. Madonna Ciccone) has sold more than 300 million albums in her career since debuting with her self-titled release in 1983. It means specifically and clearly Madonna has sold more than 300 million albums and this is only official information for album sales. Because Guinness World Records is recognized Madonna as the best selling female recording artist. Not the other institutions.

That's why you can't write Having sold more than 300 million records worldwide, Madonna is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. Because Guinness World Records says: Madonna (USA, b. Madonna Ciccone) has sold more than 300 million albums in her career since debuting with her self-titled release in 1983. at their official record page: http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/best-selling-female-recording-artist — Preceding unsigned comment added by Navyiconer (talkcontribs) 22:58, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

And you need to get it in your head that there are countless other sources reporting 300 million records sales, not albums. We appreciate your agenda in putting album sales everywhere but just WP:DROPIT. Guiness is not an authoritative source for music sales. —IB [ Poke ] 09:21, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

I understand but Guinness is an authoritative source for this record(best selling female recording artist) and directly album sales figures of Guinness is the right figures? Navyiconer (talk) 09:41, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

firstly please learn to sign your posts. They might be authoritative for best selling records, but not authoritative on the quantitative analysis. As i said, when there are countless other third party sources calling it records and not albums, and only Guiness says so, we would go with the majority however reliable Guiness maybe. —IB [ Poke ] 09:39, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

But Guinness is not like the other third party sources. Madonna has sold more than 300 million records This information is used everywhere. Everybody writes and calls 300 million records So, nobody research what is the real Madonna's figures. And then Guinness(only authoritative source for this record) researching her real figures and then they declare Madonna (USA, b. Madonna Ciccone) has sold more than 300 million albums in her career since debuting with her self-titled release in 1983. And then Madonna becoming the Best-selling female recording artist with this album sales figures Navyiconer (talk) 09:55, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Where is your proof that only Guiness has been researching? And open your eyes from the blind stanning that you have been doing, 300 million album sales is just impossible. Coupled with another 150 million singles sales, her record sales would be over 450 million, plus another 50 million for video sales it will be in The Beatles category. Face it, Guiness made a mistake, and they are sticking with it instead of correcting it. —IB [ Poke ] 10:00, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Okay, Madonna's 300 million album sales is impossible, then Rihanna's 200 million records sales is impossible too. Riaa's certificates is not just sales. certificates are = streaming+sales. So, her certificates more than her sales. Because she is most viewed artist on youtube, Most streaming artist on Spotify etc.. She has sold more than just 180 million records....

Rihanna's business is not here to discuss. —IB [ Poke ] 10:14, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Okay, sorry, when you talking about The Beatles. im thinking about Rihanna's unreliable records sales. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Navyiconer (talkcontribs) 10:18, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

You talked about The Beatles records sales. But those old artist (The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presyley, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston) their figures of records sales are too old. I saw many sources for The Beatles has sold more than 2 billion records. Elvis Presley has sold more than 1 billion records And Michael Jackson has sold more than 750 million records. Madonna, Celine Dion, Mariah carey and Whitney Houston figures of records sales actually their only albums sales. Guinness first explanation: Madonna (USA, b. Madonna Ciccone) has sold more than 300 million albums in her career since debuting with her self-titled release in 1983. As of October 2013, Madonna had sold an estimated 305,600,000 albums. Her best-sellers are The Immaculate Collection (1990, 30 million copies sold) and True Blue (1986, 25 million copies sold). Although precise sales figures are difficult to obtain and are often disputed, it is acknowledged that only The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson have conclusively sold more albums worldwide than Madonna.Among female artists, Mariah Carey (USA), Celine Dion (Canada) and Whitney Houston (USA, 1963-2012) all have total worldwide album sales estimated at 200 million units. They talking about only album sales for those female artists. Maybe you should update the sales figures in all of these artists. Nothing is impossible :) —Navyiconer (talk) 12:26, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Nope, all of that was already invalidated in long discussions at List of best-selling music artists as promotional paraphernalia from the record companies and gross inflation. As said, the certifications matter when we are sourcing sales for a certain artist and all the articles in wikipedia follow this. And sorry to say, I don't buy your personal correspondence with Guiness, because none of your actions in Wikipedia has ever been constructive. You do not understand wP:OR, WP:CONSENSUS and WP:FANCRUFT. —IB [ Poke ] 13:20, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Okay I understand. At least can we write Madonna has sold more than 350 million records ? Is there any source for 350 million records ? I hope there is. Beacuse Madonna's total album sales on Wikipedia → https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna_albums_discography around 231 million. And singles sales on → https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna_singles_discography +115 million. It's total +350 million records sales. After all of these 300 million records sales is very little. Cuase her total records sales on Wikipedia around +350 million —Navyiconer (talk) 13:34, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

@IndianBio ? —Navyiconer (talk) 18:04, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Navyiconer, you are completely missing the WP:OR policy of Wikipedia. What you are implying is something which violates both the previous policy and summation of different sources to come to a different conclusion. Please remember that sales individually are already inflated for any artist, be it Rihanna, be it Michael Jackson, be it Lady Gaga. Her certified sales are already listed in List of best-selling music artists, and per the timeframe from where she started charting, her actual sales (with inflations) cannot be more than 300 million records, this conclusion was drawn long ago through extensive discussions. —IB [ Poke ] 18:11, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Okay IndianBio , Thanks for the clarification —Navyiconer (talk) 19:59, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Rhino79 (talk) 13:07, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

No, it has been long discussed in third party sources that they are soundtrack albums catering to a film, but wholly credited to Madonna by Nielsen SoundScan, RIAA as well as dozens of third party sources. This is in contradiction with albums that you mentioned like The Next Best Thing, which are not considered Madonna albums by third party sources. —IB [ Poke ] 13:15, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

You know what, STOP being a disruptive little kid! Not everyone has time to look into a talk page always and seriously nobody has time for your psychomania. Two editors have disagreed with this source and explained also. If you want to talk about any other content, then raise an appropriate section for it. But god help me if you go on adding the content again I will drag your ass to WP:ANI. —IB [ Poke ] 05:58, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Go ahead. —Navyiconer (talk) 06:11, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Again Stop being a dick! I'm searching in the history who added that Like a Virgin claim and don't disrupt it. —IB [ Poke ] 06:14, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

You are so rude. You know that? —Navyiconer (talk) 06:15, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Like a Virgin was added by Watquaza on 04:24, February 15, 2015. Nobody noticed that and it surely does not look like a reliable source so I will be reverting it. —IB [ Poke ] 06:18, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

How nobody noticed that? Are u kidding me? it's been 1 year! when im added something everbody revert it in an 1 hour!! how can't you notice this? It's fucking 1 year! How couldn't you see? You was a blind? —Navyiconer (talk) 06:23, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Please remember that no one has time and energy to spend on Wikipedia always. So again, so being a dick, move on. —IB [ Poke ] 06:25, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Oh no i don't think so. You always has time and energy to spend on Wikipedia. Your whole life spend on Wikipedia you are on every article in Wikipedia you are everywhere. when im change somethings you always remove it in a 1 or 2 hours. Good luck for this silly things. I'm done with stupid Wikipedia things. what's happening when you are editing everything on Wikipedia? Wikipedia gives you money? i don't think so. You are not even English. You are from Indian. What are you doing here? Back your country boy. —Navyiconer (talk) 06:34, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Don't dig a grave for yourself, you are already a problematic user. Learn to respect consensus, what other users are saying and learn to abide by rules. Consider this as a final warning. —IB [ Poke ] 06:39, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

No, and you better stop this Navyiconer because its beyond disruptive. You continuously find these unreliable sources when time and time again you have been asked not to do so. Do you ever learn or are you just blind to these discussions and the warnings? —IB [ Poke ] 08:19, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
