Link to Christianity or Nicene Creed?[edit]

Since editors looking at this redirect would look here before any of the article talk pages in question, this seems like the best place to have this discussion so that later editors can review rational and add to the discussion as needed without the discussion being lost.

My feeling is that this redirect should link to the Christianity article, which per wikipedia standards discusses what mainstream Christians believe (as opposed to fringe theologies.) If an editor wants to have a wikilink to specifically the Nicene Creed from another page they should just link to Nicene Creed. If they create a link to Mainstream Christianity and Mainstream Christianity redirects to Nicene Creed, that is basically creating an WP:EASTEREGG through a redirect, which should be avoided.

It’s also worth noting that while most (though probably not all) Christians who would be considered or consider themselves to be mainstream believe in the Nicene Creed, whether or not Christianity should be defined solely by the creed is controversial, so it is best to just link to the Christianity page to avoid taking a POV stance on that. - Relinus (talk) 23:48, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Relinus: My decision to revert was based only on the fact that the redirect to Nicene Creed has been in place for nine years. I believe that changing the target after such a length of time warrants a discussion. I think your explanation is persuasive and I agree that Christianity is the more suitable redirect, as you outlined. Other editors may still raise objections, but I support your edit. Sorry I was mistaken in my edit summary; the page that wikilinked to this redirect was Jesus in Christianity and I have removed that link. --Hazhk (talk) 17:03, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I'll take a look at other links to see if any need changing as well. Thanks. - Relinus (talk) 19:07, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
