Versions and registration section

Am I the only one here who finds that something is wrong with having such a long list of relatively trivial stuff? Eik Corell (talk) 14:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

I've removed the versions table. As I see it, the relevance of all this random info about how some trivial plotline or detail isn't in the Vietnamese version is not relevant. None of it is verifiable, and it's just serving as bloat. Eik Corell (talk) 20:21, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

I think that it is very useful and i suggest you to change it back because it is a very stupid move. people have been updating the information, and i don't see any point in deleting the whole catagory —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.101.133 (talk) 18:06, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

I just came here looking for that very table. Luckily I am knowledgeable in the ways of wiki, otherwise I'd be lost. Perhaps a separate page should be dedicated to "comparision of various versions". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.7.192.220 (talk) 16:35, 24 September 2010 (UTC) I suggest you to put the table back because it was very helpful. and why are you always deleting useful stuff on wikipedia? have you ever read your own talk page before? well, if you haven't i suggest that you do, because while you have been deleting useful resources from wikipedia, people are complaining and suffereing from your stupid-doings. i, for instance, am informed that the table was been updated ever time a new event come out. and don't give me the excuse of "there is too much information" or "the vietnamese one is not up to date". because those are unacceptable and extremely not smart excuses.now that you deleted, i have no other place to receive maple story information from since nexon.com does not work on my PC. I highly suggest you to quite deleting stuff on wikipedia for your and my benefit, because if you don't know what should be deleted and what should not, you shouldn't even touch it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.101.133 (talk) 00:38, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Something being useful to players doesn't mean it should be included. This is supposed to be an encyclopedic article about the game, not a page full of trivial, unverified info that mainly interests players of the game. This info would be more suitable for the StrategyWiki article here: [[1]] Eik Corell (talk) 02:21, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

This article is really horribly organized. I need to make it my mission to fix it up. Blake (Talk·Edits) 16:08, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Why is there a link to the big bang article, when the name of the patch is only a name and nothing more? 24.16.204.246 (talk) 19:43, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Because I thought it would be educational for the reader to know what the patch is being named after. If so many people are going to question it though, I guess I should remove it. Blake (Talk·Edits) 20:10, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

This took place during the summer and it makes big chages to the game it has three basic parts. In the first part chages come to the game such as better graphics and new areas. Also during this part victoria islang gets a big change. In the second part there are new classes, battle mage and wild hunter wich make the resistance. In the third part the last part of the resistance is made the mechanic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omar.dadabhoy (talkcontribs) 21:44, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

This is a major change to the game.It has the name because it is like a new universe. It contains three parts. In the first part the world is put under darkness by the black mage causing victoria island to change. It will also bring better UI and graphics to the game. The map has also changed. Now on the map you can see the monsters and the quests you can do.Then in the second part two new classes are revealed, battle mage and wild hunter. Edlestein a new continent is also revealed. This is where the black mage is born. Battle mages use there staff and attack monsters. these magicians are unique because they have high hp and they are close distant attackers. These guys are like dual blades in a magician form. Wild hunters are basicly a bowman riding on a panther. these guys are unique because they are the only class that can ride on an animal and attack at the same time. The third part is the birth of a mechanic. there is a new class, mechanic. These guys are unique because they are pirates that are on a machine and the machine attacks. Unlike most pirates these guys dont use bullets to attack. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omar.dadabhoy (talkcontribs) 22:00, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, you didn't need to make a second section about this.(I dont know if that was intentional or not) The Big Bang details are hazy in this article because there aren't that many experienced editors taking care of this article. When this article starts getting good attention by somebody who knows that they are doing, this information will likely be added. Although Wikipedia has no deadline, so there isn't a rush to add it. If somebody wants to really learn about MapleStory gameplay features, they can go to a fansite or something. Wikipedia is not a gameguide, and will not have indepth coverage on each class. Thanks, Blake (Talk·Edits) 23:30, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Article cleanup

Not that I profess to be some kind of know-it-all, but I've been playing this game for 6 years and am pretty knowledgable in the game and its mechanics; thus, I can help revise this article, at least so it makes a little more sense to people unfamiliar with jargon and MapleStory in general. It also has an excessive amounts of wikilinks, some used more than once. When I get some time I'll see what I can do. If there's anything in particular besides the missing citations that needs attention, let me know. Valce Talk 19:37, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

"MapleStory has a combined total of over 100 million subscribers worldwide."

... only the linked source doesn't support that statement at all. The combined number from that page would be 47.1 million, and even that has a big mistake from the Korean pamphlet it quotes (it took the listed 900,000 subscribers in Japan for 9 million). The Korean original even gives a worldwide total with 39 million. That's for 2006, of course, so the page might need another (better) source to begin with.87.156.139.238 (talk) 03:55, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Some KMS updates

As a KMS player who had been playing for 6 years, and also part of the KMS Test Server, Tespia, I would like to give a heads-up... If you need sources, just go to KMS site (hopefully you can read Korean). I can't give sources for Test Server infos as you have to be a Test Server user to view them.

-The current KMS version is 1.2.148

-The creation of Dual Blade/Demon Slayer/Mercedes/Cannon Shooter is limited

-A new Hero Thief, Phantom, is currently going through Test Server; here are some informations: Phantom uses a new weapon type called "Cane", Phantom has a unique ability to steal any Explorer skills and use them as its own — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.1.165.194 (talk) 00:51, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Some additions and edits

I would like to obtain permission to edit the "Characters" section in the article to add and edit information, being a player myself.

Here's what I'm supposed to add: (1) To quote from the article: "A class advancement called "Dual Blade" is available for the Thief class at level 20, allowing them to wield a second blade with different class advancements."

My proposed edit: "A class advancement called "Dual Blade" is available for the Thief class at level 20, allowing them to wield a second blade, called "katara" with different class advancements and some different skill sets."

Source: http://maplestory.nexon.net/Guide/GameFeatures.aspx?boardNo=701&contentNo=008ER&pageIndex=1

(2) "There are five branches for the Cygnus Knights, namely, Dawn Warrior (light-attributed, sword-wielding warriors), Wind Archer (wind-attributed, bow-wielding warriors), Blaze Wizard (fire-attributed magicians), Night Walker (dark-attributed, "claw"-wielding thieves), and Thunder Breaker (lightning-attributed, "knuckle"-wielding pirates)."

(3) To quote from the article: "Arans have the Combo System, a unique feature to the class, allowing them to generate combo counts by hitting monsters giving them buffs and allowing them to cast combo-consuming skills. Evans are similar to Magicians but use a dragon which fights on their behalf. Mercedes has many of the similarities of an Archer but contains various speed improvements over the regular Archers."

My proposed edit: "Arans have the Combo System, a unique feature to the class, allowing them to generate combo counts by hitting monsters giving them buffs and allowing them to cast combo-consuming skills. Arans wield "pole-arms" to allow them to generate combo counts. Evans are similar to Magicians but use an "Onyx Dragon", named Mir, which fights on their behalf. Mercedes has many of the similarities of an Archer but contains various speed improvements over the regular Archers. Mercedes wield "dual bowguns" a weapon exclusive to the Mercedes."

Some of these should not be added as they are too "In-universe" and must take an encyclopedic stance. For instance, we do not need to mention kataras, or how Cygnus Knights are related to elements and their weapons. I know the classes are outdated but I have been too busy with school to add and source them. If you have any questions, you can ask me. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 09:12, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

New updates in KMS

As a current KMS user, I realized that this article is about a year old in terms of updates.

First of all, I do not believe that the Chaos patch should be included in the intro paragraphs nor the "Notable Updates" section, while keeping Big Bang. There had been numerous major updates following Chaos (though none as big as Big Bang which basically changed the game interface), and unless we are going to include every single one of them, Chaos Update can be removed. If we were to include every single "big" updates, it may also be needed to mention the different dates that different classes were released (Pirate, Knights of Cygnus, Heroes, Resistance, etc.)

Some parts in the "Characters" section may arise some confusion. It sounds as if you can make a regular Resistance character and still advance into a Demon Slayer, which is not true. The only way to become a Demon Slayer is to start as one, not job-advancing from a Citizen. I think that the description about the relationship between Dual Blade/Cannoneer to the rest of Explorers should be the same with Demon Slayer/Resistance. The Class system is confusing as well, since it is used in two different occasions (one for describing Hero/Explorer/Resistance/Cygnus, and another for Warrior/Bowman/Magician/Thief/Pirate). The fact that Legend classes come up randomly in the Hero class paragraph is a little weird as well.

Also, some more new jobs came up as well- such as the special (when I say special it's like Dual Blade/Cannoneer/Demon Slayer) Knights of Cygnus job called Mihail, and a new Thief hero called Phantom with the ability to "steal" some of the Explorers' skills. The Explorer job that can be unlocked by making a Lv 120 Cygnus Knight has an official name as well- Ultimate Adventurer.

Sorry for not having sources, though KillerXerxes (talk) 01:32, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Fixed the Legend mistake, separated demon slayer from the Resistance branch. As for the other classes, citing KMS does not work for some reason so I usually wait until GMS has information about it before adding it to the article. The chaos update as notable can be subjective, but introducing a change in the gameplay was decent enough for me. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 02:00, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Corrections

Legends should be Heroes.

Adventurers should be Explorers.

It should be mentioned that Dual Blades have a separate class creation button from regular explorers, therefore unofficially classifying them as special explorers along with cannoneers and Jetts. You cannot advance into the Dual Blade job from a regular explorer, and a Dual Blade character cannot advance into any other explorer class, despite starting out like a regular explorer unlike the cannoneer and Jett.

There are 2 other Heroes available in GMS: The thief Phantom and the elf bowman Mercedes. If someone allows me to, I could add information about them from personal experience. Radaradaninja (talk) 22:47, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

No to your dual blade idea. The article already notes they are created differently like cannonneer and Dual Blade. The sentence " further class progression is only allowed within the scope of the first class advancement" sums up their advancement to a degree already. Any further depth will violate WP:GAMEGUIDE. Phantom and Mercedes are already mentioned. What this article needs is someone who is an expert at concision. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 00:10, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Updates: Luminous, Kaiser, AB, Demon Avenger, Xenon, Root Abyss, etc etc...

This article seems to be quite out-of date...

01. New Jobs

-Luminous: Light magician who absorbed the Black Mage's power while sealing him. Can use magic of both light and dark as a result. Can select between the light route and the dark route at lv. 10, but the only different thing known is his way of talking. Classified under Heroes-Magician.

-Kaiser: Protector of the Nova race(dragonkin). Died previously while trying to keep Pantheon safe in his fight with Magnus, but becomes reborn as a kid named Kyle. Uses sword and fire attacks, and uses tranfiguration system. Classified under Nova-Warrior.

-Angelic Buster: Originally a MALE named Tear with completely no magical powers the Nova are supposed to posess. Tear becomes Angelic Buster after she touches a strange, holy cube. Is contracted with Escada, and uses magic to fight. Doesn't have MP, and uses a charge system instead. Classified under Nova-Pirate.

-Xenon: Originally a human, but was made into a robot by mad scientist Gelimer. Most of his memories were erased so he struggles to find them. Uses energy sword to fight. Classified under Resistance-Thief/Pirate.

-Demon Avenger: Actually not really a new character, just a state of Demon when he gives up his demon force. Uses HP for almost all skills, and doesn't have MP. When a Demon is created, the player can select between the Slayer route and the Avenger route at lv. 10, but they share the same storyline since the two jobs are the same character. Skills are totally different. Demon is classified under Resistance-Warrior.

02. New World

-Nova World: Kaiser, Angelic Buster start their stories here. Magnus also originates from this world. Pantheon, Hellisium and the fields around them are acessible.

And I suppose this article could use a little bit of explanation on the current plots(how & why the Heroes slept for hundreds of years, about Demian & the world tree(Alicia), why the Cygnus Knights are getting stronger, etc). And I would be more than happy to help write about the stories :D

Ppg409 (talk) 08:27, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

The biggest issue here is sourcing. Also, since you're an inexperienced editor, you will most definitely lack concision in your edits and add too much fancruft or non-encyclopedic information. The only thing that can safely be added right now is anything that GMS released because the rest are unsourceable. If you still intend to edit, be concise and neutral; Ask yourself if this information is important enough to be encyclopedic or just plot/game guide info for fans. DragonZero (Talk · Contribs) 09:57, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Citation links for my previous edit request +a

Sorry for being 'inexperienced', but, that doesn't necessarily mean that things I write are biased. I do realize my suggestion needs citation, though.

Since you said to another person that citing from KMS was not possible for some reason, I went to the GMS site.

Luminous, Kaiser, AB and Nova world are already out on GMS:

-Luminous: http://maplestory.nexon.net/news/updates/update-notes/00FWs/v-124-tempest-luminous-update-notes

-Kaiser: http://maplestory.nexon.net/news/updates/update-notes/00FZs/v-125-tempest-kaiser-update-notes

http://maplestory.nexon.net/news/updates/update-highlights/00FY3/v-125-tempest-kaiser-update-highlights

-Angelic Buster: http://maplestory.nexon.net/news/updates/update-notes/00Fcq/v-126-tempest-angelic-buster-update-notes

And here's Root Abyss in case you want to update about it too: http://maplestory.nexon.net/news/news/current/00Fdo/root-abyss-developer-interview http://maplestory.nexon.net/news/updates/update-notes/00Fe9/v-127-tempest-root-abyss-update-notes

If you still think my suggestion was rather fanboy/fangirlish, then please write yourself about what you find in these links. I would be more than happy to see this article up-to-date.

Plus I wonder why citing from KMS isn't possible..could you tell me?

I was wondering..the overall plot of MapleStory was written in the first part of 'MapleStory Official Fanbook SECRET STORY: Heroes' written by NEXON. I wonder if translating and summarizing the plot, then mentioning the book as its resource would be a problem? I mean, it wouldn't be considered a walkthrough because the plot written there doesn't mention in-game play(the closest things to 'in-game play' there are just tidbits from the storylines of some characters), and besides, the plot is quite essential for understanding the game, isn't it? Ppg409 (talk) 07:24, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Yeah go ahead and add the classes in. The Nova classes should be contained in one paragraph with one sentence per class for concision and sourced with GMS. Root abyss is an un-notable update and will be excluded. As for KMS, link, it causes reference errors and it's news sources, as far as I know, gets deleted pretty frequently. Yeah, you can use MapleStory Official Fanbook to source the plot but it sounds that it'll be puffed up with useless back story. If it contains unnecessary information, I will trim it. Edits to Characters Section.

So I signed up for an account just to request these edits to be made. On November 28th 2012, job advancement levels were changed from 30-70-120 to 30-60-100, maplestory's website doesn't go that far back, so I used the way back machine to grab the information, here's the patch information: [1]

Also, a 5th job advancement (Which occurs at level 200) was added in December 2016 (?) here are the patch notes from the website for that: [2]

Both of these apply to all classes. If anyone could edit the article to reflect this, that'd be great.
