MBS initial hiccups - noteworthy enough?[edit]

Noteworthy to place initial hiccups of MBS in the article?

Report in Today newspaper[1]

Xaiver0510 (talk) 02:52, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I say yes, though I'm not doing it. That is all pretty major! 70.152.235.182 (talk) 21:14, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Added -- there's a second lawsuit filed now. Jpatokal (talk) 12:53, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Access / Levy hiccup[edit]

News link [[2]]. [here]. Will add in to article when I have the time. Feel free to write this in if I have not done it yet. If this is not noteworthy also, do leave comments here also. Xaiver0510 (talk) 00:48, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your link is not working. --Shorty23sin (talk) 11:10, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(1) Hi Shorty23sin, pls check this link again.
(2) Hi Xaiver0510, this link was fixed just now. Kimberry352 (talk) 11:30, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Kimberry352. Hi Xaiver0510, I think it should be mentioned inside the article. Specially as Singapore government has implemented the 100$ rule and is generally very strict inforcing it's laws. --Shorty23sin (talk) 11:34, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Seems a bit of a non-event to me: the issue is not any problem with the levy itself, but simply that the restaurant's elevators were broken and the droids running the show couldn't figure out another way to get their customers out. Jpatokal (talk) 11:42, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for fixing the link, forgot to preview/check back after saving. Jpatokal - as per title, was thinking if it is noteworthy enough and I am more leaning towards the access portion rather than the levy. Up for consensus.

engineering[edit]

The engineering of this structure was phenomenal; the design and engineering section should be expanded. I added one potential source under "further reading". -- phoebe / (talk to me) 01:14, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question 1 on Neutrality[edit]

Why is the word 'attraction' more neutral than the word 'facility'?--110.174.132.162 (talk) 11:22, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • You need to acquaint yourself with the system described at Wikipedia:Requests for comment and restart your inquiry. Pay special attention to the section covering publicizing the RfC. If you need help crafting the RfC please make inquiries at Wikipedia:Help desk. Make it clear that you have multiple issues with the article. Tiderolls 12:36, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for advising. Enough words have been written. Since the opponents do not care about the reasoning, but only wants certain outcomes, it is useless for me to repeat the points. I have wasted too much time on this matter, and have decided to give it up.--110.174.132.162 (talk) 17:39, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question 2 on Neutrality[edit]

This is a whole section deleted by some other editors. Who is able to point out some sentences written against wikipedia policies?

== Controversy == Marina Bay Sands was reportedly under investigation by the US Department of Justice over whether there were breaches of anti-money laundering regulations.<ref>{{Cite web|last=hermesauto|date=2020-06-05|title=Marina Bay Sands casino under probe in S'pore and US: Report|url=https://www.straitstimes.com/business/companies-markets/marina-bay-sands-casino-in-singapore-under-probe-over-money-laundering|access-date=2020-06-05|website=The Straits Times|language=en}}</ref> In late 2011, Marina Bay Sands had a dispute with Madam Choo Hong Eng, on whether she could obtain a big sum of money, which a slot machine had shown that she had won on 2011-10-18. The jackpot in question was SGD$416,721.12. A casino manager claimed that it was a machine error, it offered to give her a car which was worth SGD$258,962 instead. Ms Choo appointed a lawyer to demand that Marina Bay Sands pay her the whole sum. Several days later, the casino agreed to pay her that amount. The Singaporean government department - Casino Regulatory Authority, condemned the casino for failing to keep its machine operating properly. The mass media reported that Ms Choo had donated the whole of her winning to charities instead of keeping it to herself.<ref>https://www.cra.gov.sg/docs/default-source/media-coverage-documents/18762427---23_08_2012---zb---first---1.pdf</ref><ref>{{Cite web|date=2017-04-15|title='Jackpot Aunty' Madam Choo Hong Eng: I am not a high profile person|url=https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/jackpot-aunty-madam-choo-hong-eng-i-am-not-high-profile-person|access-date=2021-08-30|website=AsiaOne|language=en}}</ref> In 2011, the Marina Bay Sands resort publicized lucky punters on its webpages. The Singapore government noticed that and said it would take action against the company, according to the rule that casino operators in that country are prohibited from publicizing the winnings of patrons. The online information in question was subsequently removed.<ref>{{Cite news|last=Erheriene|first=Ese|date=2017-03-03|title=The Hunt for the Mysterious Big Winner at Las Vegas Mogul’s New China Casino|language=en-US|work=Wall Street Journal|url=https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-hunt-for-the-mysterious-big-winner-at-las-vegas-moguls-new-china-casino-1488537009|access-date=2021-08-30|issn=0099-9660}}</ref> About one month before Marina Bay Sands opened, Reuters reported that Sands had links with criminal organizations operating in Macau, based on court trial documents it had obtained, and a joint research with the University of California, Berkerly. In the trial of that case in Hong Kong, several men were judged to be guilty. Witnesses testified that the mastermind of the attempted murder was Mr Cheung Chi-tai, that he operated a VIP room related to the murder attempt in the casino of Sands Macau, and that he was a leader of the criminal group called Wo Hop Tou. The mass media in Singapore covered this news. The Casino Regulatory Authority of the Singapore government declined to comment, when reporters asked it whether such links would affect Marina Bay Sands' getting the permission to operate its casino.<ref>{{Cite web|title=NewspaperSG - Business Times, 3 April 2010, page 4, Sands’ Macau links may come under scrutiny – Partner's role in murder-for- hire case may affect its S'pore casino licence |url=http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/digitised/issue/biztimes20100403|access-date=2021-08-30|website=eresources.nlb.gov.sg|language=en-SG}}</ref><ref>{{Cite news|last=staff|first=Matt Isaacs, Reuters|date=2010-03-29|title=Special report: High-rollers, triads and a Las Vegas giant|language=en|work=Reuters|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/us-casinos-macau-sands-idUSTRE62S34020100329|access-date=2021-08-30}}</ref>

The fact that this IP has historically made edits to casinos in Macau with a dubious amount of knowledge leads me to think that they for whatever reason has an axe to grind against MBS or at least the organisation. With the excessive additions of obscure and insignificant news reports from years ago (WP:NOTNEWS), I highly doubt any of their edits here are going to be made with a neutral point of view. Either a not so eventful personal experience at the casino, or some sort of a weird casino rivalry, I've truly seen it all. Yuorvee (talk) 11:52, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So many sentences have been pasted above for others to search for errors, yet this recent reply is still just making general accusations on morality, instead of pointing out any real mistakes. There are lots of people who are keen to write a lot of good things about certain companies for various reasons, yet the minority who are willing to rectify the existing biased articles are strangely deemed abnormal here. Just because few have the incentive to do voluntary work on trying to make articles that look too commercial less commercial does not mean they have problems. Some people know a lot about crimes in the food industry, some others had learnt much about wrongdoings of mining companies... they should be encouraged to use their knowledge to make relevant Wikipedia articles sound neutral. This is suppossed to be an encyclopedia, not some advertisement platform. Regarding the rule of not leaving obsolete news on Wikipedia, I can still see a great deal of description about business plans and announcement, including those which were not implemented and some that happened before its opening. Anyway, I shall quit this so-called edit war. Things here are too complicated for a commoner like me to fix.--110.174.132.162 (talk) 12:34, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question 3 on Neutrality[edit]

The above user deleted the only one paragraph of well-sourced controversy about this property written long ago by someone else,(https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Marina_Bay_Sands&diff=1041387485&oldid=1041386089) so that the article had become 100% complimentary of this business. Subsequently, they took down every template associated with neutrality.(https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Marina_Bay_Sands&diff=1041387559&oldid=1041387485) How reasonable is that?--110.174.132.162 (talk) 12:10, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have decided to end this discussion and will not edit the article in question again. Hence, no one needs to answer this question, this file has been closed.--110.174.132.162 (talk) 16:51, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
