Military Service[edit]

His add reflects serving in the military ? 2600:8803:BF00:5E00:3449:5B11:DE24:F640 (talk) 22:27, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have not seen any source that says he was ever in the military. TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 16:51, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Senate hearings - Teamsters[edit]

There were a lot of articles about this topic, but I don't have the time to add a paragraph about it (two or three sentences, and maybe a half-dozen cites, seems about right). Sources:

There was another tense hearing with the same individuals just the other day! I'd say it's worthy of inclusion but not sure what to add and where to add. I'll tag some people for participation who were active in the discussion on Jamaal Bowman's talk page for a unrelated but likewise bizarre episode. Oh man. I saw about today's confrontation, I forgot that it's the same guy he got into it with back in March. Are we at WP:DUE here? – Muboshgu (talk) 18:58, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sean O'Brien has a Wikipedia page too. Killuminator (talk) 19:01, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw the second video on Twitter tweeted by an Oklahoma journalist. From Oklahoma media, I didn't find anything in The Oklahoman but the Tulsa World has a few articles on it:

I spoke too soon. The Oklahoman has an article. Also:

Greetings. A suggestion. If you Google 'Markwayne Mullin controversy,' you will see the argument with the teamster is not the only polemical matter in which he has been involved. What about starting a section 'Controversies' and just report them chronologically? Thanks. Maykiwi (talk) 00:39, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Maykiwi, we don't usually want to have a separate WP:CONTROVERSYSECTION. The article is already chronological (early life, House, Senate) so if there is another controversy covered in reliable sources it can go into the appropriate section based on when it happened. Full name[edit]

This got too long for an edit summary, so I'll just make it a comment here. This article gave Mullin's full name as Mark Wayne Mullin. The edit that added it in September 2021 was an unsourced IP change. This article suggests his given name is just Markwayne, and he says "My first name is Markwayne" here. So I took it out. MMA Record[edit]

We may have to fix the bit on Mullins MMA record. From The Oklahoman today: Mullin’s Senate biography says he had an undefeated 5-0 record in The Octagon, the eight-sided MMA ring, and is a member of the Oklahoma Wrestling Hall of Fame. MMA sites Tapology and Sherdog each list him with a 3-0 record in matches in 2006 and 2007. The reasons for the discrepancy weren’t immediately clear. Since we're not investigative journalists, we should wait and see if The Oklahoman (or another RS outlet) is able to clarify this for us. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:37, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Feud with Sean O'Brien[edit]

There is no mention of it on the Sean O'Brien (labor leader) page, despite that it was largely brought about by statements and accusations that O'Brien made towards Mullin on Twitter. rogerd (talk) 23:06, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This probably also belongs on Sean's talk page, not here. But while we have this section heading, the feud section does not need three subsections that are weirdly not chronologically presented. TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 23:24, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cherokee Nation citizenship[edit]

The WP:MOS, specifically WP:NATIONALITY, supports adding dual citizenship to the first sentence. First, it says The opening paragraph should usually provide context for the activities that made the person notable. In most modern-day cases, this will be the country, region, or territory, where the person is currently a citizen, national, or permanent resident; Mullin is a citizen and resident of the Cherokee Nation and he is notable as the only Native American in the Senate. All of those factors favor inclusion.

Secondly, the guidance specific to Native Americans favors its inclusion Native American and Indigenous Canadian status is based on citizenship, not race. Indigenous people's citizenship can be listed parenthetically, or as a clause after their names. We have a line in the MOS about including this information in the first sentence of the lede. Is there consensus to keep a mention of his Cherokee Nation citizenship in the first sentence of the lede? TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 20:36, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
