Changes to lead

Pinging top three major contributors: Haleth, ConradPino, and Masem.

I've made just a few small changes (everything seemed fine otherwise), mostly to make sure "Franchise" and "video game series" are distinct. I'm sure you're aware, "franchise" being "video games + novels + comics + anything else". --Masem (t) 19:25, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

The current version looks good to me. Just one thing though, and I draw your attention to the "controversies" section for context. Historically, the brand/franchise has not always had an overall positive reception to its depiction of same sex relationships. The first game's female alien + female Shepard scene famously drew the ire of neocon/right wing North American media and even a brief ban from a foreign government back in 2007, so much so that BioWare management actually intervened in response and forcibly axed most of the second game's LGBT content during development. My research found that a sizeable backlash did occur when they did an about-turn and decide to double down on full fledeged same sex relationships for Mass Effect 3, albeit it was overshadowed by the ending controversy. The fourth game had some minor criticism from its fans for the way LGBT relationships don't get as much attention as their heterosexual counterparts and the awkward way a transgender character is portrayed as outing herself. My suggestion, in the interest of NPOV, would be to simply write it as "The series has drawn significant attention and discussion for its inclusion of same-sex relationships."
