An anon editor removed the quote from William F. Buckley to the effect that being the most prominent Socialist is America is akin to being "the tallest building in Topeka Kansas." I found this kind of an endearing quote and am inclined to restore it. Any discussion? TMS63112 16:45, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Political Qualifications

- My recollection is that he did not have a degree in Political Science, only in English — even though he taught poli sci. I think that is why he taught where he did instead of at a major university. Carrite (talk) 07:46, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Photos?
I dropped a line to the (moribund?) DSA trying to get them to come up with a few usable images of Harrington for this page and for the DSA page. So far so bad. Can anyone help? I notice his wife died fairly recently so tracking down family for photos seems a tough go, given the commonness of the name...

DSA is definitely not moribund-it has actually grown recently, especially the youth section. I attended the national convention, which was held in Evanston, Illinois (just outside of Chicago) in November. As for Harrington photos, that is a good question. There is still no substantiation, however, that the American's notability was of such overriding proportion as to dwarf the other four entries on the dab page. - That's a disingenuous argument. Anyone can write a book, and many people famous for other avenues often do, that doesn't make "writer" their primary occupation. As stated above, that's not what he was primarily known for, albeit The Other America was an important conduit of his socialist activism and a key part of his individual fame, but the book was not celebrated as a hallmark of prose, but for its non-fiction content and ideas. Even if the American Michael Harrington is retained as the primary topic, Michael Harrington (writer) still represents incomplete disambiguation. The Canadian Michael Harrington's lead sentence states that he was an "educator, writer, historian and broadcaster" and that he "served as editor-in-chief at The Telegram for the period 1959–1982". Since the American Michael Harrington was also a historian, a broadcaster and a newspaper editor, a major distinction for the Canadian would be his nationality.
