Comments[edit]

Roadrunner united is a 25th anniversary celebration record, so I clarified. not fully necessary so feel free to remove. --Nosmo 00:30, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Atheism[edit]

I made an edit regarding Mikael's belief (well, lack thereof) in God, and I missourced it. Posted the link to the wrong youtube video. Someone else reverted the edit, and I put it back with the correct source. Evidence is at around 7:11 in the video. Just trying to avoid any confusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.174.97.117 (talk) 03:54, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nymf, how is the evidence not sufficient? He says plain as day "There's no God." If that isn't a profession of atheism, I don't know what is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.174.97.117 (talk) 23:17, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

offensive?[edit]

"more intelligible than many vocalists of the style" fuck that, removing... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.18.229.33 (talk) 22:43, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly an objective statement - not Wiki-approved. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.15.113.226 (talk) 22:11, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

IPA[edit]

I've entered the IPA pronunciation of his last name, however someone may want to check it as I have the potential to suck.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cammoore (talkcontribs) 12:47, 26 April 2006 .

I believe you got the 'Å' transcribed correctly, but you dropped the 'r'. I have a feeling that it may be something similar to a tap or alveolar trill but I am not familiar enough with Swedish to say for certain.--Andrew c 02:32, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is good enough if you pronounce it like the middle sound in "brought", "law" or "straw" /Swede

- It's OAK-ah-feldt. He told me himself. --85.103.136.89 (talk) 08:27, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war[edit]

I see an edit war going on over some comments that seem to be of dubious nature and doubtful notability. In any case, simply reverting does nothing. Let's talk it out. Who's first? Wilhelm_meis (talk) 05:20, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I simply added some info on the page, wich has references(official opeth website). If you think otherwise please make it clear here instead of reverting.E0728042 (talk) 19:20, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't say anything was unreferenced, but regardless of the source, no one cares whether or not he eats asparagus. It's just not notable and has no place in an encyclopedia article. But obviously we need to discuss these things instead of just reverting ad infinitum. Wilhelm_meis (talk) 06:59, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Voice Type[edit]

Please leave it as a bariton, unless you have a proof that shows otherwise, because he sings(of course i mean when he sings clean) his songs in a bariton range (f2-f4(max g4) ) and we see in bleak live video that he's hitting F♯4, that's his upper limit. For those who disagree please post your opinions here. E0728042 (talk) 19:20, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is Mikael Akerfeldt Jewish?[edit]

He has been placed in the category 'swedish jews', yet everything ive heard indicates that he is not jewish. I think this should be changed unless someone can provide some evidence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.173.177.5 (talk) 05:40, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mikael being the lead guitar player[edit]

Mikael has not been the lead guitarist, even before Fredrick arrived in the conventional sense as they were exchanging a lot between him and Peter, but after Fredrick's arrival this state of his is further eliminated I guess, as most of the lead playing of Watershed is done by Fredrick. So I think we may move his lead-guitarist title, and insert guitarist only. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.24.6.168 (talk) 11:09, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New picture[edit]

I put up a new picture on Commons but can't really decide if it's better than the ones that are already here. Anyway, if anybody thinks so, it's there to be used. --pred (talk) 22:24, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life and the status of the "BLP sources|date=July 2010" template message.[edit]

Hi there. First of all: I've reviewed the edits the Internet Archive Bot did. They look fine to me so I set '|checked' to 'true'.

Secondly there are some major problems as I see in for this page is the 'Personal Life' section. These are

  • 1. The given citation about Mikael's family doesn't include the information given in the paragraph before the citation. The one mentioning his second child. I tried to find the relevant information in that article but as of 2017-12-27 I haven't found any. Left said link with an issue tag.
  • 2. The full names of his children are mentioned. I suspect this breaks these guidelines: Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Privacy_of_names. Therefore I removed their full names. I can't find much mentioned by Mikael in any written interviews or on Opeth's web site although his second daughter's full name was briefly mentioned in an archived entry I gather must be from the year 2007. More recent material I looked at omits most but the most basic family details and the previously mentioned details from 2007 are nowhere to be found on Opeth's current web site. I haven't checked any social media accounts but twitter, they're not mentioned there as far as I can tell. So I assume they're not public figures by choice and in that case it's an invasion of privacy to list his children's full names. When it comes to children caution is paramount. Hence my edits.
  • 3. This sentence "He then went on to confirm in another interview, possibly inadvertently, that his family is still together." is not properly sourced either. I commented it out since I couldn't find any written material supporting this claim whatsoever. Apart from material from third parties that source basically everything from this Wikipedia article; revolvy.com for example. Depending on you look at it you might say it is contentious. I'd say that it could be interpreted by Mikael as a slight of sorts. That is the reason I commented it out instead of placing an issue tag. The reason I didn't remove it completely is because I'm not so sure other people would agree with me about this.

Minor issues:

  • 1. I can't find any sources describing the finish of his guitars. From the little I know and have seen regarding his guitars I have no reason to think what's written isn't true. I just can't verify it. I think I got the sources of the model names correct though.
  • 2. A couple of entries under the "Appearances" heading provide no sources at the moment. I added a couple and it was decently easy to find material on this. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Apart from that most of the outstanding issues mentioned on this Talk page during the 2010 period seems to be resolved. I'd like to discuss whether the template message at the top of the page is ready to be removed within a reasonable time period if there are no major disagreements. The state of the article version from July 2010 looks pretty different from the current one. More sources, more of a neutral point of view, less "filler" material in lack of a better word, etc.
