The mini-driver problem

Some operating systems like Microsoft Windows have special device drivers called mini-drivers (go Google the term if you have not heard of it). I am wondering if maybe a disambiguation line should be added to the Minnie Driver page for that. What does everyone else think?

--Coolcaesar 05:17, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I agree with you. There should be a disambiguation line added to this article as the two words are similiar. --Siva1979Talk to me 15:43, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
I think not. Particularly as we don't have a mini driver article. chocolateboy 15:09, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Why "Minnie"?

Some explanation should be given of how she got the nickname, and why on earth she would call herself Minnie Driver... VenomousConcept (talk) 22:18, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

No mystery here. Minnie is the diminutive form of Amelia, her given name. - SummerPhD (talk) 23:07, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Everything I've Got in My Pocket - UK Chart Position?

In one sentence the article says 34, in the next it says 44 -- I cannot find out which is correct. --ukexpat 13:37, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

The correct answer is 43[1]. 207.172.87.49 11:34, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Filmography - GoldenEye(James Bond)

Can anybody explain what she's got to do with the James Bond movie GoldenEye? Have seen the movie multiple times but no Minnie. Please enlighten ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.174.173.243 (talk) 18:23, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Electrolysis for Dissidents?

I can't remember the name of the character she played in The Day Today, but I'm fairly certain that it wasn't Lally Sampson. She played an East European tennis player. I'll check back when I have more info... 82.3.144.140 (talk) 12:12, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Lally Sampson --Pirhounix 11:29, 15 December 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pirhounix (talkcontribs)

???

I entered a discussion concerning the fact that I thought the article was incorrect concerning the character Minnie Driver played in The Day Today. I checked back in today to say that I was incorrect, only to find that my section had been removed. Why is this? My remarks were valid, if incorrect...I believe I was contributing to the "discussion". 82.3.144.140 (talk) 11:36, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

It's right above this thread. Nymf hideliho! 12:25, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Personal Life

In main article this section is too short. Add something on marital status, and list some past relationship. 24.245.105.83 (talk) 13:04, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

If you happen to have reliable sources for any of this information, you can add it yourself. - SummerPhD (talk) 15:23, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
I agree, it says she gave birth to a boy, but there's no mention of whether she's married, has a boyfriend or what. Did she have artificial insemination?! Some clarification needed.VenomousConcept (talk) 22:16, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Her Father was NOT Welsh

It was said on the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are? (UK TV series) (7th August, 2013) it was clearly stated that Minnie Driver's father was NOT Welsh. He was born in Wales to a Scottish father and a Yorkshire mother. His parents moved around the country, and were in Wales at the time of his birth. Kuitan (talk) 20:35, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

You got his parents mixed up. He had a Scottish mother (née McGregor) and an English father from Yorkshire. 151.225.17.188 (talk) 04:04, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
But that would mean he WAS Welsh, if he was born in Wales. DavidFarmbrough (talk) 05:58, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Not necessarily - only if he considered himself to be Welsh, which, by the sounds of it, he did not. If he was born in China to an English dad and Scottish mum, would that make him Chinese? Doubtful - unless he insisted he was. Besides, it was Minnie herself who declared that her dad was "not Welsh" after all when she learned of his parents' ethnicities, so that's all that's relevant to this article, really. 151.225.64.140 (talk) 17:08, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Place of birth

The edit war notwithstanding, Driver's own tweets from her confirmed account qualify as reliable and published per WP:SELFSOURCE. 🖖ATinySliver/ATalkPage 22:10, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

That may be true, but the WP:BURDEN is on the editor making the changes to provide a citation. Sending other editors to Twitter to view the subject's comments is not the way we do things here (and constitutes WP:OR). In addition, the subject herself commented "That'll do" when informed that Wikipedia listed her birthplace as St. Marylebone, per the ONS document cited in the article. Part of the issue is the editor's insistence on specifying the hospital where the subject was born (inside the link so that it has the effect of breaking it), the other is the absence of any cited source. The subject's main gripe seemed to be that another site listed her birthplace as Finsbury Park, which we never did. General Ization Talk 22:21, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Ah—when checking her tweets for the one to cite, I missed "That'll do". My error. That said, the tweets that stood out were "My page is basically fiction.. Sadly, apart from my age - which is correct" and "@Wikipedia you're totally fired as my biographer." 🖖ATinySliver/ATalkPage 22:36, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
I reverted based solely on the existing ref of a scanned official government documents - which would seem the more reliable source (I wasn't aware of the Tweets at the time that I reverted). FreeBMD has indexes to Births, Marriages and Deaths (BMD) for England and Wales from 1837 to 1983. The existing ref links to a page that has a jpg scan of that document, which reflects "Amelia Fiona J. Driver, born in St. Marylebone". Although, in all fairness, we're debating the difference of a few city blocks - the former Middlesex Teaching Hospital was located not too far from St. Marylebone which is listed in the official documents.
From what I can see, the dust-up in Twitter was caused by Minnie Driver being irritated that people were thinking she was born in Finsbury Park - a location completely separate from both the government source and the stated hospital. The only mention I see in the article is a category tag, which doesn't appear supported anywhere else in the article, so I'll remove that category now as all parties appear to agree that's incorrect. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 22:45, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Marylebone is accurate but the BMD entry should not be preferred as a source to her tweet from a verified account. The identification of Amelia Driver in the register with Minnie Driver has been made a a website user and although probably correct may not be.Martinlc (talk) 11:56, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
It should also be noted that the BMD entry has it listed under - Births Mar 1970 - and this article says she was born in January. I also found several contradictory sources for the year in her date of birth, many stating it was 1971. The Washington Post and The Guardian and The New York Times and Los Angeles Daily News and Europe (magazine) and Associated Press.-- Isaidnoway (talk) 18:44, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
Just curious, where are you seeing BMD showing March? The scan of the document shows it covers the period Jan, Feb, and March 1970 - it doesn't actually list a month or day - just that it was first quarter of the year. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 18:26, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
