More work needed[edit]

This page needs more work to describe some of the major changes going on in this fast growing locality. The shipping coming into the bay and the air transport is set to increase dramatically over the next decade. The port for example is doubling its container handling capacity and the airport is working on the plans for a new--and contentious runway.

The fast growing population of the SE is pressing on on the Bay with boating rising by an estimated 5% per year making it a battleground between the recreational boaters and fishers wanting access and the environmentalists concerned about the biota of the bay. The current rezoning of the Marine Park is reflecting some of the impact of population on the bay.

On the more positive side, it would be good if someone would write about the strides that have been made in stopping pollution of the Bay through the HealthyWaterways programme, the likely impact of stormwater and sewerage recycling. I do not feel qualified to comment properly on these initiatives.

By the sound of it you have some sources for this information? Can you post them up here? Rimmeraj 22:31, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My thoughts for some work required on this article are as follows:

  • A up to date map or satellite image which shows location of key places around Moreton Bay
  • In the physical geography section some mention of tides in the bay and perhaps brief discussion of extreme weather events
  • The early history could be expanded a bit including more detail on aboriginal history pre European exploration
  • The European history section should include a little more information on whaling and dugonging and the penal colony including the prison on St Helena Island
  • A section about economic uses of the bay e.g. fishing, transport, tourism etc
  • The recreation section could be expanded a little and a couple of images are need to support this e.g. Manly Boat harbour/marina and/or perhaps one of yachts racing
  • Some authoritatively sourced science based information on expected impacts of climate change may be appropriate
  • Flora and fauna should include images of a dugong, and a Green or Loggerhead turtle, preferably ones from Moreton Bay
  • The Flora and fauna section should also have brief summary level information about fish and non-vertebrates in Moreton Bay
  • Possibly, there is a need for a short section on Moreton Bay's impact on and relevance to our society and culture

The article will benefit generally from improved citation of sources and perhaps tightening up of some wording.

The article now has more than enough images and as a general rule there should not be images on both sides of the text. As the article is improved and a small number of new images (as discussed above) are added there will be a need to decide which images are most important to retain and which need to be culled.Panthus (talk) 07:40, 13 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

What's with all the references to homosexuality in the Moreton Bay article? Surely this could be cleaned up? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.25.140.101 (talk) 04:21, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well spotted. I have reverted the 3 edits. Thanks & regards, -- JohnI (talk) 17:53, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Undue weight and not news[edit]

I am not sure details of the politics for the environmental protection of a section of the bay is important. This is an encyclopedia not a news source. Documenting the dates and actions about that aren't appropriate because in the long run they aren't significant. - Shiftchange (talk) 09:00, 8 March 2014 (UTC) Your point is well made and applicable to other information in the article also e.g. September 2007 boating accident. As additional information is included to fill gaps such as those noted above in More Work Needed, there will be a need for some restructuring and pruning of less useful information.Panthus (talk) 07:33, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mn3[edit]

At Moreton Bay#Sandbanks: "Past dredging has removed 18 Mn3 and the removal of another 40 Mn3 is planned.[14]", the reference pointing to New Parallel Runway Draft EIS/MDP Middle Banks, Moreton Bay Chapter 1. p 4. Brisbane Airport Corporation. What is Mn3? Taken literally, a million cubed is a quintillion, so they dredged 18 quintillion ... whats? Grains of sand? Who counted them? Anything bigger would be too much to dredge quintillions of it. My guess it that "million m3" (million cubic meters) was intended, but I'm not sure enough to fix it, because the source isn't online. Art LaPella (talk) 19:25, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well spotted. Looking at page 311 on this document we can see the unit should be million metres cubed or mm3. I'll fix it now. - Shiftchange (talk) 04:28, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

To @Kerry Raymond: and other users: I suggest creating an article of Moreton Bay Islands with all islands of Moreton Bay and also integrate pseudo-articles of Southern Moreton Bay Islands, Queensland and Southern Moreton Bay Islands (Redland City). Subtropical-man ( | en-2) 17:00, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see no problem with an article for all the islands in the bay. But the "pseudo-articles" are not "pseudo", they describe two officially bounded suburbs of Gold Coast City (that article could be better named to refer to the GCC) and Redland City respectively, both of which satisfy the notability requirememnts for a place article. They are suburb articles not island articles. Kerry (talk) 18:51, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the Redland City one might not be an official suburb so might be pseudo. Im on a limited satellite connection in Greenland so I cant accesss the QLD Globe to check this though. I will check when I am back in Oz. Kerry (talk) 19:00, 21 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
