Question of Neutrality[edit]

I would disagree. The majority of the article is both historical and factual. It is comparable to other articles on contemporary Christian communities e.g. Word of God (community). Alternate viewpoint, this article is in some places factually incorrect and without evidence (the first prayer meeting of the charismatic renewal?) and in other places (for example the 8-part washington post expose) could more accurately reflect the body of work in the source. Theres other unfounded claims like 'ah the internal audit concluded this was not cult-like at all' and 'this community had a great relationship with the church from the get go' that can perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt. Heterodox Theology[edit]

The article needs more discussion of the heterodox theology historically propounded by the leadership. Probably would be good to trace the influence of Watchman Nee's books - specifically the Tripartite Nature of humanity and the Neo-Manichean"Two Kingdoms". These concepts were part of the formation of the community and its leadership, and have never been fully addressed. They are also very far removed from accepted Catholic theology, and it would be helpful to explain why so many of the eminent theologians mentioned in the article were able to endorse these beliefs. It might also be useful to visit the macrobiotic phase of the community's life - it was important enough to create a community business - The Mother of God Co-op.--caricklace 16:27, 20 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by `````

Need for separate School page[edit]

While the MOG community still oversees most of the school's activities, recent changes in the Mother of God School administration and policies are starting to warrant the creation of a separate article dedicated to the school itself. Also, much of this article on the community contains information that, on closer inspection, actually refers to the School. For this reason, work on school's new page has begun; will take time to gather references. Once this page is up and running, School section of THIS article may be shortened for the sake of clarity, and the rest of the article will need to be checked over to ensure that what remains refers to the MOG Community, not the School. Also: the community activities section was cleaned up, as suggested by @Lastenglishking 2ReinreB2 (talk) 19:13, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Improve This Article[edit]

Hi all. I noted that this article was listed for improvement on the Charismatic wiki.

I think the main issue here is that the entire article is purely reliant on self-published material from the Mother of God website, which is neither a notable or reliable source.

The Mother of God community is referenced in some literature on the Charismatic Renewal that should be enough to fill in some early history here. I think perhaps it will also be relevant to fill in the association with the People of Praise and Word of God in the original association of covcoms 1975-1981 and also the relevance to the Shepherding Movement.

I am aware that there is a lot of unverified information here. This is going to have to go if a source cannot be produced to reliably verify the information, so it would be awesome if editors could add in reliable references where appropriate. One suggestion I will make is to stick to reliable news, textbook, or academic publishing. The inclusion of less reliable 'opinion' articles and blogs can be detrimental to the quality of the page (see the People of Praise article after the inclusion of Amy Barret Cohen opinion pieces to see what I mean).

There are some inaccuracies here which will have to go.

Claims of being the first prayer meeting of the charismatic renewal in 1968 are a bit bogus to say the least. I thoroughly do not believe a source exists to support this statement.

I also note in the history there has been some whitewash of the Cardinal Hickey investigation. There is extensive Washington Post coverage of this issue which will be included and referenced. This should clean up some disputes I have observed in the edit history regarding content here.
