The 2008 online-version of the New York Herald is not the same Herald that this article is about. This should be clarified. Ranever (talk) 23:03, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed it per WP:SPAMLINK. JakeInJoisey (talk) 18:31, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Paper’s Support of Know Nothings?[edit]

The article says the paper’s editorial policy was generally anti-Catholic yet the article on Bennett states he was Catholic with no mention of his ever leaving its fold? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2D80:ED11:5300:F54F:F59D:4157:F1B4 (talk) 16:18, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In American National Biography, it says of Bennett: He treated religious developments in the same way as other news, often in a light, frivolous manner. In May 1840 he greatly overstepped the bounds of propriety with a vicious and vulgar attack on his own Roman Catholic Church. And encyclopedia.com says New York's Roman Catholic bishop excommunicated him for dubbing transubstantiation "religious cookery" Bennett had attended seminary for four years earlier in his life. He was Catholic but apparently not a subservient Catholic. Schazjmd (talk) 17:03, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
