Redirect to Livonia Public Schools?

Not sure if this is the right forum to communicate. The previous administrator of Hinoki believed that going to Livonia Public schools was a good idea. Obviously the board did not agree. After LPS created their new school, he engaged in an internet campaign to try and use Hinoki's legacy to help attract students to the new school. Now that the school is standing on its own, he has stopped. I suggest placing it in with Livonia Public Schools. Most of this article does not actually relate to the subject, but rather to the history of what happened with other schools before this one was formed. All of these schools and the associated events fit into the existing article for Livonia Public Schools. On 6 April 2015, Boleyn replaced this article with a redirection to Livonia Public Schools, but this was reverted by (TCT WIKIEDITS and took it back to the way it was. I propose putting the redirection back in place, or at least merging any notable content from here into the Livonia article. Comments?

Firstly, I should apologise for my poor edit summary when making this page a redirect. It should have said that I was doing so per WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES; we rarely have pages on elementary schools, they need to very clearly meet WP:ORG or WP:GNG. However, if TCT WIKIEDITS was concerned about my edit, a comment at my Talk page would have been preferable to reverting me and describing my edits as 'malicious' in an edit summary I was unaware of. I also don't see why this school, particularly when the entry only refers to a different school, should be given its own entry. It's even very clear at the beginning that this is NOT about the other school! I don't think that's appropriate. I was also surprised when I saw the revert and the description of your edit as 'malicious'. This school does not warrant its own entry. It seems that at this point, as so little of the article content has to do with the actual school in question (rather it almost all deals with it's non-relationship to another school), what information does exist should be moved to the district page as the conflict itself should not be the sole purpose of the article. While the school may in fact be notable enough to warrant its own article, at this point there is not enough source material outside of a few articles from local publications (most of which appear to cover to controversy) to support a separate entry. 11235Eureka! Could the redirect on this piece be restored? The entirety of the entry involves a different school, Hinoki Intenational School, which is no longer operational, and whose history is detailed on the Hinoki page. It seems strange to pull up an entry to Niji-Iro Elementary, and only read about Hinoki International School. It would make sense to put the controversy information with Livonia Public Schools, but it doesn't seem to fit under the particular school. It just doesn't seem to be enough to justify a stand-alone wiki entry WhateverHappenedToBabyJane 16:23 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Reasons for Reverting Redirect

"Malicious" was wrong, and I sincerely apologize Boleyn. I followed some bad advice, but now understand the reasons for the redirect, even while disagreeing that it is necessary.

My understanding was that this page had a specific entry as much for the controversy surrounding the situation, which has been covered extensively in local and state media (and still followed); and because the entry has value to local people, because is clears up confusion that the two schools are the same (they are not). Also, the redirect happened at the same time as a redirect for Hinoki International - to Livonia. Hinoki International is a separate school district (consisting of one school, as a charter school), and has nothing to do with Livonia, except that it once rented a building in that city, and was once authorized by the school district. It is now geographically in a different area (Farmington Hills), and is now authorized by a university, not a public school district. Therefore, the redirect of Hinoki to Livonia is clearly not correct, and I reverted the redirects for both schools based on that (and thinking it was "malicious" - again, I am sorry).

It might be acceptable to merge Niji-Iro content with content on Livonia, but you would be taking away useful information if that merging was just a listing of the school's name. Although elementary schools are not normally single entries, this school (and the other, Hinoki) are relatively unique, as dual bilingual-immersion programs in Japanese. There are only a few (6 or fewer?) in the United States. They have been researched by universities and other organizations in the United States and Japan, and while I recognize that most of all that is not shown here now, let alone cited, it is valuable to have a nucleus to which to tie that information in the future (it takes time to drum up the sources needed to reputably add content). I would say the information is incomplete, but a redirect has the effect of obliterating information that is valuable. TCT WIKIEDITS (talk) 23:38, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
