Name issue[edit]

The name Starik Khottabych, Old Man Khottabych and Old Hottabych (as on DVD cover) are of the same meaning and does not probably matter. At least USA name is The Flying Carpet. End of story. --Yuriy Lapitskiy 09:25, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

kind of modern Harry Potter novel for Soviet kids[edit]

Given that the book is over half a century older than Harry Potter, that statement looks weird at least. -- Paul Pogonyshev (talk) 16:17, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

and where did you see anti-capitalist elements in the novel, please indicate them better Цйфыву (talk) 09:40, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
but I didn't see them there Цйфыву (talk) 09:41, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suffix -ych[edit]

Name is derived from Arabic Khattab with Russian -ych diminutive suffix.

In fact, the suffix -ych is not diminutive. It is used here to form a patronymic name. Volka called the genie this way because his father's name was Khattab and because in Russia you may informally address older people by patronymic name alone (while formally you would use both first and patronymic name). 85.237.41.146 (talk) 15:52, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
