Luther's Latin version of his treatise "Von der Freiheit eines Christenmenschen"[edit]

1. According to Projekt Gutenberg-DE, Luther dedicated the German version of this "Traktätlein und Sermon" ("little treatise and sermon") to Hieronymus Mühlpfordt, Stadtvogt zu Zwickau (leading officer in Zwickau, a town in Saxony), after having dedicated the Latin version (Tractatus de libertate christiana) to Pope Leo X (see the picture of the title page).

Therefore the following remarks in the Wikipedia article are misdirecting:

"The letter was, after all, published in German, a language Leo X could not understand. (NOTE: According to some sources, the letter was written in Latin. [...]"

(If my English knowledge were not as meagre as it is, I would change these clauses by myself. :) )

2. Regarding Luther's conjectural motive for addressing a letter, including the treatise "De libertate christiana", to the Pope: See Christiane Krause, Universität Hamburg: "Als Reaktion auf die päpstliche Bannandrohungsbulle gegen Luther vom Juni 1520 versuchte der päpstliche Nuntius Karl von Militz zwischen den Parteien zu vermitteln und veranlasste Luther zu einem Sendschreiben an Papst Leo X. Diesem Schreiben fügte Luther die Schrift 'De libertate christiana' bei, die zu den wichtigsten Reformationsschriften gehört."
