A Waiheke history Facebook group has had an Ostend real-estate brochure posted: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1857981684480427/posts/3064578270487423/ . I don't know if/how this can be referenced and used as a source, but it contains background on the naming of Ostend:
Some difficulty was experienced in selecting a suitable name, so a public competition was held, and out of an enormous number of suggestions the name of "Ostend" was chosen, after the celebrated European watering place.RadishSlicetalk 23:06, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Based on the pamphlet, I found a source! It doesn't link specifically to Ostend, but there may be sources that do (but have fun finding them - 1915 is during WWI when most references to Ostend are about Belgium, and the OCR doesn't really like picking up "Waiheke".
The pamphlet itself might be hard to use as a source, but if it's discussed in a secondary source (eg a book about Waiheke, or a paper/blog post by the museum) then the info could be used. --Prosperosity (talk) 02:34, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
