Rewrite[edit]

Did a big rewrite on the article. Made it more logical in the arrangement of the text.

Removed the Trivia Section and integrated some of the information into the main text.

Since "professional" wrestling is not a sport but an exhibition, I included it under "entertainment" events.

I also removed this section:

Concert Events

Maná - Revolución de Amor Tour - October 1, 2003
Maná - Amar es Combatir Tour - February 9 and February 10, 2007

I removed this section because the arena has hosted thousands of concerts during the 40+ years of its existence. There's no reason to list just two shows by some obscure band when world famous acts such as Elvis, Rush, David Bowie, Aerosmith and many, many others have appears. Future events?[edit]

I removed the following sentence:

WWE One Night Stand 2008 will be at the Sports Arena on June 1, 2008.

I don't really think that a future event belongs in an article of a particular venue; as opposed to say an article on the Chi-Coms's preparation for this year's Summer Olympiad.

Rating upgrades[edit]

I did a big rewrite on this article--as is detailed in the discussion item above--and feel that the quality rating should be raised from "Start" to "B". My understanding of the ratings systems, after checking the appropriate page, is that ratings below "GA" level do not have to be submitted to "peer review" or "consensus."

If I've violated policy here, an explanation on my Talk Page would be appreciated.

The importance should be, in my opinion, rated "mid" rather than "low" because the Sports Arena was for, decades, San Diego's only facility that could handle "arena" acts. (While Qualcomm Stadium can and does sometimes host concerts, its 65,000+ plus seats make it far to big for all but the biggest acts, e.g. the Rolling Stones.) Until the Coors Arena was built in Chula Vista, there was really no other options for events seating in the 10-15,000 range.

It's also played host to a many famous events; the ones listed are only some. One of the most notable, in local history, was the 1987 New Year's Eve concert performed by Oingo Boingo in which the band played for nearly six hours. This concert has achieved near legendary status.

It also was the home "field" of San Diego's two pro basketball franchises (now the Houston Rockets and L.A. Clippers).

Thus its role in San Diego life has been significant. And since San Diego is California's second city (after LA, in both population and wealth) that increases its significance to the state. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PainMan (talk • contribs) 15:39, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Naming Rights[edit]

Not sure when this will come to be, but NBC 7/39 just reported that the Arena just got a new title sponsor. It will soon be called the Valley View Casino Center. Not sure how to "wikiconfirm" this, though. Someone else can therefore add this. 68.107.11.96 (talk) 01:20, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
