I think we should move this page to Halkevleri or Halk Evleri DenizTC 07:38, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that someone who has good command of English should edit this page and the person who wrote this article as well as the corresponding section in the more general article about Mustafa Kemal (Seen the similar "stylistic" virtues of both texts, I am pretty sure that a very same and unique person is in question) should content him/herself with "proposing" a content, and should abstain from redacting. Almost none of the sentences make sense, and it takes a much greater deal of time to correct them than it would to redact the article from nought.Ekindedeoglu 10:20, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong premise?[edit]

People's Houses are community centres associated with the labor movement.

I can't claim any kind of expertise about this topic, but so far as I know that lede is misconceived. Certainly the first Russian 'People's House', built 1899-1900 in St Petersburg, was inspired by the People's Palaces being built in the north of England and Scotland, and were built under the auspices of the Russian Temperance Committee: the idea was that if working class people were given civilized entertainment (concerts, theatre, opera) and facilities (restaurant and library) they would aspire to better things than drunkenness. So no, I don't think anything to do with the labor movement: it's surely revealing that that first Russian People's House was opened by Tsar Nicholas II, and was originally named after him. I will set to to try to at least get this article on the right track. Alfietucker (talk) 08:02, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
