Merger Proposal[edit]

Request received to merge articles: Norfolk Island Postal Service into Postage stamps and postal history of Norfolk Island; dated: April 2024. Proposer's Rationale: I propose that the Norfolk Island Postal Service article is merged into this one. It has been flagged as outdated and needing attention for several years now. I did track down some government reports to expand it with some additional detail about the arrangements between Norfolk Post and Australia Post, however it amounts to a starter article at best, and the overlap doesn't seem to justify two separate articles. Seeking opinion of editors with an interest in philately, as an alternative might be to split the content into two separate articles, one on the Norfolk Island Philatelic Bureau and another on Norfolk Post itself. Oppose; Norfolk Island Postal Service was the postal service and fits exactly with all the other postal administration articles even if outdated and now run by Australia Post. Postage stamps and postal history of Norfolk Island is an entirely different type of article about the stamps and postal history of the island. I have never seen any other article combine the two. If you want to move it anywhere it should be merged to Australia Post. ww2censor (talk) 11:06, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Thanks for the contribution Ww2censor! I know this is an area where you have considerable expertise and acknowledge your comments that this is a "different kind of article". However I will point out that prior to this edit [1] I made yesterday, there was very little information that isn't already duplicated or covered more extensively in the stamps and postal history article (see here [2]). Based on that, it's hard to distinguish how these articles are all that different, but it may be that it's just evolved in unintended way since it was created back in 2015 and the intent was lost. With that said, it does require some attention to fix or remove regardless. I'd also support your suggestion to merge the new information I found into a separate section within Australia Post as I doubt once the duplication is addressed there would be much left for a standalone article on the NIPS.
