The earnings section makes no sense. $0.0002 per song? At 7.5% that's 0.000015 not 0.00015 as reported in the article. At the reported $61,000 earnings that's over 4 Billion downloads from a country with a population of only 50 million. Biography

PSY (싸이) is a Korean hip hop artist. Although not a mainstream hip hop artist, he is popular underground due to his great sense of humour and his unique concerts (he always imitates the greatest female star of the day (in 2006, it was Lee Hyori). He has appeared on numerous variety programs, including Good Sunday: X-Man and The Golden Fishery.

PSY is unique amongst Korean singers. The most obvious fact being that he received his education in the United States, graduating from both Boston University and Berklee College of Music. He showed off his own sense of style and music in his first album, which also confirmed his creativity. He was fined for this album, the reason that his music promoted inappropriate content for underage listeners. His second album was also banned, amazingly enough for the opposite reason, with people claiming it was inappropriate for listeners over the age of eighteen.

The top part should be edited, as it currently makes no sense it mentions "A few weeks later, Gangnam Style became the most accessed YouTube video of all time having generated one billion views" and "On December 21, 2012, his music video for Gangnam Style exceeded 1 billion views on YouTube, becoming the first user to ever do so in YouTube's history." I'd say drop the first sentence, between october and december 21st is more then a few weeks. No, because the first character used in "jae"(재) is pretty much always read as the letter j (except on some occasions it can be read as ch). That, and "sung" is actually just another way of romanizing "seong"(성). HerroLink 09:17, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Please change his high school name from Eva to Sehwa High school. According to referance website(http://people.search.naver.com/search.naver?sm=tab_txc&where=people_profile&ie=utf8&query=싸이&os=158367) ,The school name is "Sehwa(세화)", not "Eva". Edit Request on 12 September 2012. It's 5mil won, NOT 500mil. Reasoning: The article states 500만원. The translation of 만원 is 10,000. Therefore, 500 x 10,000 = 5mil. This roughly translates to $5,000 USD as opposed to $500,000 USD. (Half a million US dollars for possession of marijuana? Err, so I don't see that in WP:MOS, nor in WP:TITLEFORMAT which seems more relevant. Instead it says,

So...I think the question is whether he is PSY or Psy in the canonical proper form. And I don't know the answer, but I suspect it is the former and the move is wrong? Oh, and p.s., it's not a great idea to call block capitals "camelcase"; usually that means stuff like fooBar, though sometimes it means FooBar (confusing!), but I don't think in any case it would be FOOBAR. If you transliterate the Hangul version, it is Ssai... It can be abbreviation of anything starting with Psy... if it were acronym or initialism, the transliteration would match how the individual letters are pronounced in English (for example Pee-es-wae, because there is no "ai" in Hangul). It's more, when i've heard him being talked about on the tv, radio ect, he's called 'sigh', but then when i actually listen to his songs and he refers to himself in several songs with the individual 'P, S, Y' and never as 'sigh'. Im wondering if it might be a good idea to change it from Psy (rapper) to Psy (entertainer). "Rapper" could be a misleading term because like many other K-Pop artists including, T.O.P (entertainer), he does a lot more than rapping. As some have stated above, there is no evidence this anything other than a trademark - WP:MOSTM. Per English conventions, proper names that are capitalized imply an acronym (MIT, NASA, etc). Psy is not an acronym, it stands for the word "Psycho" as stated in his interviews - thus it should be written as Psy. Like other groups such as SISTAR and SHINee, they are written this way on CDs and videos to showcase their trademark. It doesn't mean in formal writing, you should write it this way (ala companies like ROLEX). Writing PSY here and there makes all the writing distracting. There are just as many sources that do not use capital letters - Billboard, KBS, United Nations, Wall Street Journal... and these are just some of the links from the references on this article. I seriously doubt KBS sources itself from Wikipedia. Even if you were to use "PSYcho", it's a trademark which would be written Psycho; it's abbreviated form in English is Psy. There's no precedent in English for a single word being capitalized into letters that isn't an acronym or initialism. There's no difference than other foreign language albums where WP:MOSTM would be preferable, like Love (Mika Nakashima album) being the article title for LØVE or I Spy I Spy as i spy i spy. This article should be moved back to the normal capitalization "Psy". There are sources that capitalize his name entirely, but there are also sources that don't: the LA Times, The Washington Post, Time, The Huffington Post, ABC News, the New York Daily Times, The Telegraphy, Rolling Stone... I can go on. Note how some of the sources I provided are also some provided by A1candidate, like ABC News and Time. There is no reason to have this article title in all caps. Comment: The mainstream media is reporting about this right now, but PSY has yet to respond. Controversy

Is there really a need to display the full lyrics of PSY's controversial song? I noticed I just got reverted for summarizing a bit of the song's lyrics. I know Wikipedia isn't censored and everything but the lyrics are already provided in the reference. You never explained why you feel that the lyrics are unsuitable for inclusion? If you know that Wikipedia isn't censored, then why would you try to censor it? Among other reasons, there's still uncertainty as to whether the lyrics have been translated correctly. According to the Washington Post, the lyrics by CNN's user-submitted translation (which is re-copied here) wasn't translated correctly after all. There is no consensus (yet) as to which version of the lyrics is correct, but the one quoted in this Wikipedia article was "based on shoddy translation". If anyone cares, for what it's worth, it should technically be Hammer not MC Hammer when mentioning him at the American Music Awards (which is missing in this article but present in the G.S. song article) and Dick Clark's New Years Eve event (in the intro of this article) since he was billed as Hammer (as seen during the performance on TV as well) and because he was Hammer (and now is again when performing the mashup) during his 2 Legit 2 Quit album after dropping MC. First time I have checked this page in a long time and I see they are many mistakes. As I am no longer able to edit the page myself. I have summarised the key points below.

Firstly the track list for "Remake & Mix 18 Beon" is incorrect, many of the songs Korean titles have been mistranslated to English. I would add also the album was banned due to vulgarisms in several songs. On closer inspection almost all the song titles in all his albums have been mistranslated or translated too literally and makes no sense in the English language. It would be better if the Korean song titles are kept Korean.

From memory he did not appear in the first Wet Dreams movie.

Gangnam Style was released in January 2012 not July, also Yoo Jae-Seok originally featured in it but was removed on the album version.

He was signed to YG Entertainment much earlier than 2010, I think it was about 2004.

The article states he is worldwide known for Gangnam Style, however in different countries he is known for many different songs most of all Right Now which country by country is his most well known worldwide song.

PSY has a huge production discography which is totally ignored in the article.

They are about 5 music video appearances I can think of which are not mentioned most of them are YG Entertainment music videos by artists like Perry and Jinusean.

Due to the contracts at YG Entertainment PSY would not have earned any royalties from his YG released songs.

I would also like added his anti-Chinese songs rather than concentrate on the anti-American ones which are seen as parodies rather than anything sincere.

Also it would be nice to see a section about his famous CF's and the Psycho fan club which was one of the biggest idol fan clubs in Asia before being forced to disband in 2010.

Finally for a long time his name was pronounced as Psy and over the years became 싸이 (pronounced sah-ee) and then back to PSY and increasingly P.S.Y.

But it’s the news of the second performance, in 2004, that may make Americans reconsider their adoration of the K-pop star. There are a few issues with this. The first is that this is already mentioned in the controversies section of the article. The second, this breaks PoV in several ways. To quote, "...that may make Americans reconsider their adoration of the K-pop star," "PSY Protests The US," and the actual lyrics to the song which are already summed up in the section that was previously mentioned. Third, there seems to be no reason to add this into the section anyways, except for maybe a small note in the 2001-02 and 2003-2009 sections of the article, which I would suggest as being a potentially better idea with a link to the controversies section within it. It's not quite a "neologism" but I think I get the intent of the use of that word here. While a singer is a type of entertainer, it would be very unusual indeed for anyone to describe someone who is in as specific a profession as "singer" with the generic "entertainer". So, we might say to someone: "there will be "entertainers at the gala, including dancers and jugglers and the singer, Psy", but if we were talking about a single singer specifically, we would never normally say "the entertainer, Psy will be there." Can someone please remove the part about him being the only person ever to reach 1 billion views on Youtube as Justin Bieber's "Baby" also achieved this landmark.

Banned vs Restricted Sales

This article mentions in multiple places some of PSY's songs being "banned". This is misleading, as sales of those songs were restricted to adults. Unlike the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family which assigned the ban to it, our MPAA is NOT a government agency and can't actually ban jack squat. They can only request theaters or stores to restrict sales to adults, on those products the they decide are not appropriate for kids and teens. While most chains and businesses agree to follow their ratings, there is no legal requirement for them to do so. Any theater or store, can sell a ticket or DVD to a child, for a product with an R rating - and the same for music or games with with M or Adult Only ratings, because the ESRB is also not a government agency. And when states have tried to enact laws, requiring retailers to follow the ratings of groups like the MPAA and ESRB, they were declared unconstitutional, as most any kind of entertainment is considered protected freedom of expression, under the First Amendment.

I don't get the impression that is the case with the Ministry's rulings - they are a government agency, and it would appear there are legal consequences, if a South Korean retailer ignored the ban. CleverTitania (talk) 05:23, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
