Arakanese language → Rakhine language – According to SIL, Arakanese language (mhv) is deprecated and Ethnologue has no data for mhv. As the Rakhine language (rki) is an active living language, this article should be moved to "Rakhine language". Ninja✮Strikers ^«☎» 13:44, 27 January 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. There is no policy requiring that SIL names be adopted (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (languages)). Reading the SIL change request [1], the deprecation of "Arakanese" was primarily driven by a desire to disambiguate the Rakhine/Arakanese and Marma languages (and to create a new language code for the latter). The notes also mention:

"Also, during the course of survey fieldwork, the term "Arakanese" was not mentioned by either the Marma or the Rakhine. Rather, the Marma refer to themselves as Marma, and the Rakhine refer to themselves as Rakhine."

That being said, English language academic sources still generally prefer using "Arakanese" over "Rakhine," analogous to the continued preference of "Burmese" over "Myanmar" in academic writing, which would meet the standard of WP:CRITERIA for retaining "Arakanese." I did also want to point out that renaming the article to "Rakhine" would be more consistent with Rakhine people, so the same name should be adopted for both articles. --Hintha(t) 22:20, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arakanese language and Rakhine language are together. Both used only the RKI defined by SIL. Wiki also recognized it as rki. Both the Arakanese language and the Rakhine language are pronounced [ɹəkʰàɪɴbàθà] only. Because both are the same. It is not known for what purpose the mhv was placed in SIL as only RKI was available. We do not have data for mhv. RKI represents both Arakanese language and Rakhine language. It is incorrect to claim that Arakanese does not refer to Rakhine. Arakanese people do not exist exclusively. Only Rakhine has been translated into Arakanese. Arakanese is also translated as Rakhine.
