Style of play

Can Robin Van persie have a style of play section as Emile heskey has it and his article is classified good even though persie is clearly a better footballer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.235.68.107 (talk) 03:55, 13 December 2010 (UTC) It has one of the best style of play section when it comes to football players so what are you talking about ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fijipeace (talkcontribs) 04:44, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Muslim?

A previous version of this article stated that he has been a Muslim since childhood, due to a friendship with a Moroccan janitor. Is this definitely not true? --MartinUK 18:19, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Thats not true, but he converted to Islam in 2006.212.219.74.11 (talk) 03:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

If anybody has any sources citing the fact that RVP is a Muslim, please do post the link here. It will be very helpful. Thanks. -GilbertoSilvaFan (talk) 17:09, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

He indeed turned Muslim in 2006 after marrying Bouchra who is the daughter of his Muslim of childhood friend who was his school's guard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.241.151.161 (talk) 12:03, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Does it matter? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.106.130.117 (talk) 16:35, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Not that I'm Muslim or whatnot, there is someone who replace the word 'Islam' with 'Christian', albeit the citation refers to a page entitled 'I pray five times a day... blablabla'. For Wikipedia's own credibility, please fix that. I don't really care with whether van Persie is a Muslim or not, but surely some stupid fanatics (either Muslim or Christian) will go crazy, "OOOHH PERSIE IS A MUSLIMM!!1111". Xaliber (talk) 08:34, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

I have edited the personal life section yesterday and added an interview where he states that he is of no religion Hadareud (talk) 07:29, 11 September 2009 (UTC) His wife is a muslim, but the player himself has said he is not a muslim. In this interview (http://www.dutch-football.com/football/articles/robin_van_persie_holland_netherlands_euro_2008.shtml) he says the following:

.....Van Persie doesn't need religion for that.

"I believe in myself. When you are a good bloke that will bring positivity to the society. A better world starts at home, they say. No?"

His wife is a Muslim.

And on certain websites it reads that Van Persie has also converted to Islam.

So what's the story?

"It's not true. I am not a Muslim, nor a Christian or a Jew. I have been raised liberally. If you want to become a Muslim it should come from the heart. I would not do it just to please my wife. To believe for me is a quest for being a good man." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.28.2.100 (talk) 00:16, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Does anyone know, if he has a girlfriend? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.245.242.226 (talkcontribs)

It's possible, but he is married.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk  15:52, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Just out of curiousity, why are you interested in gossip about footballers love lives (C.Ronaldo, Van Persie)? hedpeguyuk 17:33 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, first, we (my best friend and I) think, they are quite cute and girls (like we are) love gossips! And then, the girls in our class made a "single or not?"-list with some football-players (it`s the World Cup, we talk about nothing else...) and theese two are the only one, that are missing!

He is married to a Dutch Moroccan called Bouchra. -- Szvest 09:23, 27 June 2006 (UTC) Wiki me up™

Rape Allegations

Should a comment be added about the alleged rape charge against him and two friends, (although the Dutch Police eventually dropped the charges)? In addition was not his exit from Dutch football partly caused by the attack on players by Ajax fans at a reserve match? --Vivbaker 17:42, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

The first part should be added (the rape part). The part about leaving Dutch football because of that, I don't know since it's only natural for good Dutch footballers to eventually move away to the better leagues. Yonatanh 01:14, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

His exit from Dutch football wasn't because of this reserve match between Ajax and Feyenoord. He left Feyenoord mainly because he ended up playing in the reserve team thanks to a conflict with coach Van Marwijk. He was close to sign up with PSV (which is of course also in Holland), but when Arsenal showed interest he didn't hesitate any longer. SportsAddicted 19:00, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Why is this rape allegation on here?? Legally (at the very least!) this was an unfounded allegation against an innocent party. Noting the incident on this page only perpetuates suspicion which be forever be unproven (and unprovable!)

The allegation was made, and it was not sustained, so the readers just have to draw their own conclusions from there. Chensiyuan (talk) 03:11, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

An arrest / allegation is NOTHING! It shouldn't be mentioned, period. Is the Kobe Bryant rape allegation mentioned on his page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.120.20.178 (talk) 08:29, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Charlton goal

If this isn't going to get mentioned you might as well delete the whole article, it was on here the other night, but some 'wikipedian' who takes this website too seriously seems to have deleted it. For gods sake!! It was an amazing goal that will live long in the memory of not just Arsenal fans but fans all round the country! If that doesn't deserve a mention nothing does. UncleTheOne

Hello. Wasn't that great of a goal imo, he just struck it blindly is all. His two goals against Belarus for instance were both placed into the far corner and required actual skill. Also, as a comparison, more beautiful and important volleys like Zidane's in the 2002 CL finale and Van Basten's in the Euro '88 final are only briefly mentioned in their articles. Having two paragraphs of speculation that some MotD pundit considers Van Persie's the goal of the season is fanboyish and unencyclopedic, hence I removed it. Igorrr 10:59, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Come on, you cant be serious, it was quite a common consensus among football fans, that it was a once in a lifetime goal 213.121.241.209
No it wasn't. If a Derby player had done this then nobody would care two days later. Its only because it happened from a Arsenal/Man U/Liverpool club that people say that rubbish.
worth a short mention if one can show sources extensively discussing the quality of the goal. from memory I believe the goal was quite talked about in the media so it won't be hard to find sources. the issue may be how much detail if it's mentioned in this article. best way is to find a reputable sportswriter who characterised the goal in some way. Chensiyuan 15:06, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Show me a Derby player who has ever scored a goal even close to this quality and I'll agree with you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.109.134.195 (talk) 08:11, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Works Ahead

Dear everyone,

I'm currently revamping this article. The revamp work will take approximately three weeks (Nov 15 - Dec 3 2007). In that time, I will be mainly be adding to the article, but will also delete/reorder lots of what is currently in the article. If you have spent lots of time on the current version of the article (link for how the article looked before I started messing with it), and you have any comments whatsoever about the changes I'm making, I'd greatly appreciate your input. Maybe you are unhappy that I deleted something you wrote, maybe you don't like how I changed your table, or maybe you've spotted something stupid that I have (or have neglected to have) written. Whatever your concerns (or comments), please write them below. I don't want to seem like I'm air-headedly steaming through the article changing everything without first thinking - but at the same time, I will probably do some annoying or stupid things to an article which lots of people have spent lots of time on. So please alert me if you spot anything or if you're annoyed that I've just ruined all your work, and we'll discuss it.

Thank you, GilbertoSilvaFan 15:33, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

I think the table I set up for the goals is pretty well done, if you could try to leave that the same, it would be greatly appreciated. Dragon Inferno

Style of Play

The whole section on van Persie's style of play is written very poorly; not only is it fairly sycophantic, it's also written in pretty appalling English. I did attempt to tidy it up but the section has since been reverted to its previous poor standard. Someone with more authority than me should probably just delete it, not only for being generally rubbish, but because it's unlikely that style of play will ever be written about objectively. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.155.80.55 (talk) 23:43, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Height

Someone keeps changing his height to 6'2, even though the links say that he's 6'0...what's going on here?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raudys (talkcontribs) 16:49, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

I change it because once it was 1,88 m and I don't know who changed it to 1,83 m ,it is clear that he is taller than 1,83 m,in the photo with Henry he looks as tall as Henry (1,88 m). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.117.166.25 (talk) 11:09, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

And is another picture with Kuyt standing among Van Persie and Van Persie is taller that Kuyt wich is 1,84 m.Also Afellay is among Van Persie and is taller with more than 2 cm wich Afellay is 1,81 m.If Van Persie was 1,83 m has been shorter than both.[1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.117.166.25 (talk) 11:24, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Comparing photos? That's highly unscientific for a particularly scientific endeavour. At the very least you need a proper source to verify your assertion. Chensiyuan (talk) 14:59, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
The Netherlands national team official site lists him as 1.88m. I think this would be a stronger source than ESPN and should be preferred. - Slow Graffiti (talk) 13:28, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
As has already been done. At least that constitutes the proper way of doing things here. Chensiyuan (talk) 14:15, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

in the match against ghana lasy night he looked the same height as mark van bommel who is listed as 6ft 1.5 inches, he is taller than 6ft —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.191.224.106 (talk) 13:39, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Some guy keeps changing it to 1.83m, backing it up with sources from the Premier League website and UEFA.com - both of which list Vermaelen as being heavier than Gallas and Song, and list Bendtner as being 190cm. The Premier League site also lists Jay Emmanuel Thomas as being 1.75m. It is a rubbish source and should not be used. Likewise other sources like the BBC have players like Vermaelen listed incorrectly even though he is one of the only Arsenal players who has had his height publicly listed! Newspapers like the Telegraph also have some wildly incorrect data (see their data on Gallas). I opted for Sky Sports as it seems to be the least unreliable, at least in cases that I've seen. Shame that the data on Ons Oranje is missing.

Also, for what its worth (yeah I know), have a look at the picture of him with Arjen Robben. Robben is 1.81m or something of the like and van Persie towers over him.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.155.215 (talk) 04:49, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Let's drop your unscientific arguments about comparing the height of Robben with Van Persie. It's not scientific at all! By looking at the pictures, all you can conclude is Van Persie is taller than 181cm, and you can never draw your conclusion that Van Persie's height is 188cm.
Remember, Wikipedia is all about verifiability, not truth. Most sources out there say that his height is 183cm, not 188cm.
How rubbish are UEFA and Premier League websites? These are known to be reliable sources, and they don't become less reliable because a nobody thinks that Song is heavier than Vermaelen and Bendtner is taller/shorter than 190cm.
Let's face it: while UEFA and the Premier League are official organizers of the competitions Van Persie compete in, Sky Sports is just a TV broadcaster.
To further my arguments that his height is 183cm, you may wish to look at FIFA's website, which lists his height as 184cm (http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/players/player=217315/index.html); ESPN lists his height as 183cm (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/18858/robin-van-persie?cc=4716&ver=global); goal.com lists it as 183cm (http://www.goal.com/en-gb/people/netherlands/2841/robin-van-persie); football.co.uk lists it as 6 ft(http://www.football.co.uk/arsenal/players/robin_van_persie_109144.shtml; MSN Sports lists it as 183cm (http://sport.malaysia.msn.com/world-cup-2010/football-stars/article.aspx?cp-documentid=4041287).
Basically, Sky Sports is the only one that lists his height as 188cm. In such circumstances, Sky Sports should be regarded as not reliable.
However, since the authoritative FIFA lists his height as 184cm, and a number of sources say it's 6 ft, I am going to change it to 6 ft rather than 183cm (since 184cm=6.037ft).Craddocktm (talk) 05:47, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Good job flinging personal insults by calling me a nobody. How pathetic is that? I also stated, implicitly but blindingly clearly, that I did not consider height comparison to be scientific. I don't know how you missed that and I don't understand why you're calling for me to drop the unscientific arguments when I already did preemptively. Also great job on also ignoring my other arguments why the Premier League/FIFA websites are unrealiable, opting to call me a nobody instead. Bendtner IS taller than 190cm, Jay Emmanuel Thomas is NOT 175cm, William Gallas according to his official and Arsenal's official website is NOT 72kg. The FIFA website also lists Gallas' height as 181cm which is WRONG (http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/know-more-about...-william-gallas). Premier league website lists Vermaelen's height and weight as 183cm/75kg and so do some of the other sources you cited. The official Arsenal website? They say 182cm/82kg. Face it, those websites are dodgy. Why can't you admit it when the evidence is blatantly there? If you want me too I could look up a dozen more errors.
Futhermore, you dismiss Sky Sports but support your argument using goal.com? You dismiss Sky Sports as just a broadcaster but cite ESPN? Come on...
Yes Sky Sports gets it wrong sometimes (see Gallas' height listing there), but don't go around parading about how brilliant the so called reliable and 'authoritative' websites are when they are clearly full of holes. Don't bother with the personal insults either. For gods sake, what is this, pre-school? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.155.215 (talk) 07:01, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Decided to use archive.org to raise the old Ons Oranje webpage from the dead. It is affiliated (or so I'm lead to believe) with the Dutch FA, so it probably trumps the other sources (reliability issues already raised). Slow as hell page though, may require multiple attempts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.155.215 (talk) 07:59, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

If you regard the word "nobody" as an insult, I will withdraw it. But it is indeed surprising that you do so - obviously the opinion of an unsigned wiki user is not important at all, let alone to discredit reliable sources. Obviously anyone would regard the Premier League / UEFA / FIFA as much more credible than your personal opinion.
How did I miss your point? Obviously I did not. You are saying as if Bendtner's height is something known to everybody like the sun rises from the east. The problem is, it is not. There are conflicting sources, and which one should be adopted will be determined by the reliability of the sources. I have more than met your arguments by saying that your personal opinion will not affect the reliability of the Premier League and UEFA and FIFA sources.
When I cited goal.com and ESPN, that is just to show that the majority of sources say his height is 183cm. Obviously they are not the most reliable ones. My point is reliability is relative and Premier League and the UEFA are more reliable than Sky Sports, and that does not extend to the other sources I cited. But the weight of all these sources added together surely tips the balance in favour of saying his height is 183cm. How can you say the reliability of Sky Sports alone is sufficient to counter the reliability of all these sites? That is the gist of this argument, and I don't see how you can meet it.Craddocktm (talk) 16:39, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Good lord...
I appreciate you withdrawing the insult, but lets be honest here - calling somebody a nobody is definitely an insult and its pretty difficult to 'regard' it any other way. No-one appreciates being called a nobody - its basic social skills for gods sake. Essentially what you've done is called somebody a nobody and been 'surpised' that they're unhappy at that. Seriously? You also seem to skip over, and you've done this multiple times, the facts that I've stated (discrepancies between FIFA/UEFA/EPL sites and official website in the cases of Vermaelen and Gallas). Regarding the opinion thing, I should not have to explain this at all and I'm not going to simplify it more - just read what I said again and you might get it. If you don't, keep at it.
How can I counter your argument? I can compare data from official sources with the FIFA/UEFA/EPL sites as well as others, such as Sky Sports and see which has greater level of inaccuracy. I will state once again that I don't see any of these sources as reliable - frankly they're all awful compared to official club websites and to a lesser extent national team websites. I picked Sky Sports because, despite its failures, it was the only source that matched the Ons Oranje source. I also balanced the factual discrepancies that I saw with your 'reliable' sites . It is very simple and I don't see how you did not see that.
Look, I'm tired of explaining these things since they're so simple. Look at some of the official data given and compare it to what you would consider reliable sources, see the discrepancies (I've done for this you already), then come back and tell me that these websites are as reliable as you believe. If your view doesn't waver in the slightest, then there is no hope at all. Logic doesn't work at all and I give up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.155.215 (talk) 17:51, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
If you regard your points as more important than premier league or UEFA sources, so be it.
How many times do I have to rephrase my words to make you understand I have never missed your arguments? You are saying as if the facts you stated are universal truths - but they are not. You seem to suggest that your suggestions / club profiles / national team information are always correct. Therefore, your repeated insistence in factual discrepancies.
I only have issues with your first post, when you gave the height / weight of players with no given sources. Once you gave sources, I do see your point in factual discrepancies.
Since you prefer the Ons Oranje website so much, how do you explain the discrepancies between it and club profiles? For example, Ons Oranje lists Joris Mathijsen's height as 1.82m, while HSV lists it as 1.83m. Ons Oranje lists Van der Vaart's height as 1.74m, while his official website says it's 1.78m. Using your line of arguments, the Ons Oranje website has been discredited as much as the Premier League website / UEFA website have been.
Your logic erred precisely because you assumed a certain site must be correct, and any other sites that contradict it are wrong. What I have been in pains to demonstrate is, the assumption is misplaced. The facts we have been discussing are not universal truths, and we can only settle on an answer by weighing the reliability of all the sources. Unfortunately, you chose to ignore it and insisted that your sources are correct. To simple things, you may want to ask, why is the Ons Oranje website to be regarded as the ultimately accurate source? Why can't Van Persie's height be actually 1.83m and that the Ons Oranje website has erred? Do you understand me? You persistent attempt in labelling I having missed your points is getting very annoying. Craddocktm (talk) 08:22, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
For what its worth, here is my order of preference for selecting data:
1. Official club websites (although errors can be made w/ loan signings, notably short term ones); 2: National team websites
- The first of these sources have direct access to player, the second should have at least some but this varies. Official club websites, especially with full signings should be considered the total premium
3. Official player websites
- Not far behind, but can be subject to the case of "hey, add a few more centimeters - make me look bigger!". VDV is taller on his official site than on the Real Madrid site.
4. Whichever source seems to have the least errors (cross-referencing must be factored in too)
- I've gone over EPL/UEFA etc sites. Some of the data seems to be inputted at random (see Fran Merida - both his Atlético Madrid profile and his EPL site profile, you'll see what I mean) implying that they don't have direct access to data
The reasoning is primarily based on the advice that EA Sports gives to those involved with its database for the FIFA series - official sources get priority so long as they do not contain data that is clearly bogus (database guidelines are not freely available to non editors/reviewers I'm afraid). I definitely should've mentioned this earlier to avoid the whole "its your opinion" stuff. When club websites do not give official data, then go to national team websites then official players etc. I'll admit that had the Ons Oranje website not given the data and had I not been aware of its existance previously, I, and the EA Sports editors too (I presume), may be inclined to opt for 1.83 as well despite the clear and obvious patchiness of the so called reliable sources (Sky Sports would've been the lone source). Even though both sources have errors, I'm following EA Sports advice and opting for the national team source. I know Wikipedia is not EA Sports and vice-versa, but that's the way it works over there - and EA sports are not 'nobodies' as you would like to say.
Again, I really should've mentioned that earlier - guess that's my fault. Nothing much more to say really, except that I hope one day Arsenal will publish their data.

Update: I e-mailed the club. The result?

Thanks for your query. Robin van Persie is 6'1", approximately 186cm.

Kind regards,

Tom Bennett Communications Department Arsenal Football Club

In short, EVERYONE was wrong. Too good, I know. The problem would be that this is an e-mail and therefore cannot be sourced. I would like to get this formalized somehow... like getting a reliable source to publish this (the fact that he is 6'1" not the email) or something, preferably Arsenal.com. Any suggestions would be helpful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.222.155.215 (talk) 11:02, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

I guess Arsenal.com would be the best choice? Can you ask Mr Bennett to arrange that? Craddocktm (talk) 16:33, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

My only question is why pictures (good pictures for comparing) can't be used as a verifiable source? After all, pictures are data, much like written articles. Why can't van Persie be 1.88m and not 1.83m (his football youth height)?

Zidane is 1.85m (pretty much 6'1") From Robin van Persie's official twitter account. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aloncho11 (talkcontribs) 04:00, 13 September 2011 (UTC)Aloncho11 (talk) 04:05, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

There's a lot to read on here about his height. I doubt he's only 6 foot so that email stating 6 foot 1 should be correct, I've always thought he was 6 foot 2. Someone said in all this debating that the premier league site wasn't a reliable source...they are right the premier league site should be reliable but I've seen many heights listed incorrectly. Check out Daniel Sturridge listed as 6 foot 2 - Sturridge is 5 foot 11 (if not he's 5 foot 10 atleast or 6 foot max) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.250.3 (talk) 14:34, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

sources, not personal observations please. Chensiyuan (talk) 13:42, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

If the premier league football site said 2+2=5 would you go on to use that as a reliable source because that is basically what people are doing using the premier league site to back up player heights — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.97.63.100 (talk) 14:50, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

The premier league is not a reliable source for mathematics. It is a reliable source for information about its players. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:38, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

So Daniel Sturridge is a towering 6 foot 2 striker? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.136.250.3 (talk) 22:03, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

There's a dead horse being beaten somewhere by you and no one except you seems to care. In short, if you can find a source that is reliable that indicates he's two inches taller than the premier league's site, I suspect that we could accept the change otherwise, it's time to bury the horse. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:16, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Again, find a reference that supports your claim, and you may change both the height value and the reference. If you don't, this page may be permanently locked to anonymous editing since changing his height against the reference is simply nonconstructive at best and vandalism at worst. I trust that this is not being percieved as a threat but simply as a explanation of Wikipedia policy. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:04, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

lmao I haven't ever changed Van Persie's height. You don't need to lock Van Persie's page to stop me from changing anything. I will drop the matter and leave it as 6 foot however Football Manager 2012 lists Van Persie as 6 foot 2, considering they're the only source to get Sturridge's height right I'm inclined to think they are correct about Van Persie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.2.111 (talk) 20:16, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

As other editors have pointed out earlier, wikipedia is about verifiability, not truth or even fact or even accuracy (policy found here) -- rightly or wrongly, that simply is a policy (though currently under discussion). In this instance, you may well be correct. Fm2012 may well be correct. Every other source may be flatly and obviously wrong. But it's all about what the preponderance of the legitimate sources say. If there's a real conflict as between the legitimate sources, perhaps that can be higlighted in a footnote or something. Chensiyuan (talk) 01:28, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

How can you call a source that is obviously wrong "legitimate"? Unless you can prove that the people that run the Premier League site have got out a measuring tape and measured Van Persie's height, it is just as irrelevant as any other source that claims to know his height. I say he's 27 metres tall, that doesn't make it correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.109.134.195 (talk) 08:21, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Exactly my point. The ones that don't agree with the one from the Premier League are obviously wrong. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:46, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Obviously wrong? Explain how. Do you know that the PL site have measured him? They are just as likely to be wrong as any other source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 175.38.224.228 (talk) 12:04, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

There is a presumption of legitimacy when a stat is coming from the official body that runs the league. Is it rebuttable? Yes. But not through your mere assertions. The FM "source" doesn't break any impasse, if there was even one to begin with. Chensiyuan (talk) 12:27, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
Sorry. Sarcasm doesn't translate well to raw text. The point is simple: the league does have legitimacy as per Chensiyuan's comment. If another source can be found with a different height, it should be considered. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:50, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Indonesian?

Has anybody got a reputable source which suggests that van Persie is of part-Indonesian descent?

I think somebody might have just made this up for a laugh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.137.113 (talk) 15:32, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

I can't verify it anywhere – references that have been used have included the Indonesian Wikipedia, a blog, and now a site using content from an older version of this article. It's probably the same person adding it, as the IP addresses are all in the same range (79.117.128.0/18). snigbrook (talk) 13:48, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Faults on Robin van Persie's wikipedia

There are many faults at this wikipedia page. I've never changed anything on wikipedia so this is totally new for me. Apperentely it was wrong the way I did it yesterday. I'm one of Robin's biggest fans since his debut for Feyenoord and I know almost everything about him. I read a lot about him. I'm Dutch so some of the sources are in Dutch. I have a fansite about Robin with a couple of friends and we meet Robin also a few times. The owner of this page (or somebody from wikipedia) can contact me to sort some things out. I know Robin would like it if this page has no faults on it. You can contact me at info@robinvanpersie.eu

First part:

-Robin is nog only a left winger. At the moment, he plays as a right winger for the national team. -Robin didn't join Excelsior in 2001, he played for Excelsior since he was four-five years old. He went to Feyenoord when he was 13. http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_van_Persie#Excelsior

Profile:

- I don't think Robin is 6.2. I know the Dutch FA claims that, but a few years ago Arsenal said Robin is 6.0. I've meet Robin a few times and he's not as big as you will think. - Robin didn't play 59 matches for Feyenoord. It's 61 and 14 goals (instead of 15). I can send the owner of this page some Excel files with all the matches that Robin played. Here's a link from Robin's profile on the number 1 football website in Holland: http://www.vi.nl/Spelers/Robben.htm?dbid=41040&typeofpage=84137 (Yes I know that the URL is strange, Robben, but if you click on it, you can see that it's Robin's profile).

Early life: - Kralingen is not in the East of Rotterdam but in the North East. http://maps.google.nl/maps?q=kralingen&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3PBFA_nlNL273NL273&tab=nl

Feyenoord - Excelsior: same as in the first part. - Robin didn't made his debut when he was seventeen. He played his first match on 3 February 2002 against Roda JC. Robin was born in August 6, 1983. That means that he was eighteen. - He played 17 matches in the first season, not 15. You can see here that he played 10 Eredivisie matches http://www.vi.nl/Spelers/Robben.htm?dbid=41040&typeofpage=84137 and he also played 7 Uefa Cup matches. - Robin played 23 matches and made 8 goals in the Eredivisie in 2002-2003. He played 2 CL matches and 3 Dutch FA Cup matches (where he also scored 7 goals). In total he played 28 matches and scored 15 goals (the owner of this page can ask for the Excel files with all his matches). - Robin played 28 matches and made 6 goals in the Eredivisie in 2003-2004. He played 3 UEFA Cup matches and 2 Dutch FA Cup matches. He only scored in the Eredivisie so the total will be 33 matches and 6 goals.

Personal life - Robin didn't life only with his father. He also lived a few days a week with his mother. Robin said that last year in Dutch magazine Veronica. I can make a scan from it and you can ask a second opinion if it's right what I'm saying. - In the Veronica Magazine, he also said that he's not a Muslim. His wife is, and he respects that, but he's an Atheist. I can also make a scan of that. - Robin and his family life in Enfield, North London. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4159/is_20050227/ai_n11829469/

Career statistiscs - There are missing some assists from Feyenoord. But it's hard to have good sources for that. The apps and goals must be changed as I said in the Feyenoord part.

Honours - Robin won the player of the sixth round award this year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Cup_2008%E2%80%9309

This doesn't look like an improvement to me. Sources removed, images removed, just the titles of the captions is probably a good idea. Maybe an experienced editor can clean this up. 178.198.203.28 (talk) 07:56, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Newer Image

Alright then now that van Persie is captain why dont we try to get an image of him with the armband on. If not why not a picture of him from this year because this current picture is to outdated. Arsenalkid700 (talk) 22:34, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Correct use of surname

The Dutch names article, the surname section reads in part, "In the Netherlands, these prefixes are not spelled with a capital when used in combination with the first name or initial...In all other cases a capital letter must be used." I will be making the change shortly. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:18, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

In other words, it's "Robin van Persie" when written completely and "Van Persie" when only making reference to the subject's family name. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:01, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Nazi salute

Is this really relevant at all. It was just media speculation and has no relevance to van Persie's season what so ever. Even one day after he was accused of it people forgot and did not bother him again about the issue. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 20:31, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

It was hyped by media and Van Persie has denied anything nefarious by the action. Because of the media furor, it should be mentioned, but it should not occupy more than a line. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:15, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
To my knowledge it was mentioned in a few places but hardly sustained. Mere reporting or temporary hype doesn't quite pass the threshold. Chensiyuan (talk) 04:45, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
A single reliable source makes it pass the threshold. If you have a different threshold in mind I'd like to see it. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 05:08, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
The onus isn't on me to prove anything, particularly for a BLP, but at any rate, a single reliable source only shows the news is a piece of trustworthy news, not that it's by definition worthy of inclusion. I'm looking primarily at WP:NOTNEWSPAPER and WP:Notability (events). Chensiyuan (talk) 06:00, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
This is a really straightforward issue, this being a BLP, and given this, inclusion is not justified unless shown otherwise. Manderiko (talk) 08:56, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
If it were unreferenced it would be a BLP issue. Since it is referenced, it's not. See "Criticism and praise should be included if they can be sourced to reliable secondary sources". You will be tagged with removing a referenced material if you insist on continuing. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 09:17, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
You can be selective all you want, but this is not only about WPRS. BLP states:
"Biographies of living persons (BLPs) must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives, and the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment."
And WP undue states:
"An article should not give undue weight to any aspects of the subject but should strive to treat each aspect with a weight appropriate to its significance to the subject. For example, discussion of isolated events, criticisms, or news reports about a subject may be verifiable and neutral, but still be disproportionate to their overall significance to the article topic. This is a concern especially in relation to recent events that may be in the news. Note that undue weight can be given in several ways, including, but not limited to, depth of detail, quantity of text, prominence of placement, and juxtaposition of statements."
Please do not continue to make others read the rules on your behalf; there are more... Manderiko (talk) 09:23, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Wikipdia works by consensus, not voting, and the rule is simple, regardless of how many people think it should go, it doesn't break any rules related to WP:BLP that I can see. I'm taking it there presently. I will stand down if required, but removing a valid reference is vandalism. It's not undue weight when its on single line. Don't throw your opinion into changing a referenced act. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 09:25, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Based on some feedback that I solicited I will change my position, but for a different reason that what has been proposed. The source is not reliable. It also indicates that the action was an Internet rumour. If a reliable source can be found that supports that the action was indeed what Internet gossips claim, then adding information back in it might be considered. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:13, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Appearences and goals scored for Arsenal needs updating, should be 254 Appearances and 115 Goals (as of 30/12/2011) Source: http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players/robin-van-persie

Ario92 (talk) 14:25, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Not done - I'm assuming you are referring to the infobox, the object in the top-right corner of the article. The reference given indicates "Prem Lge" "129+45" or 174 with "82" goals. If you notice there's an asterisk (*) next to "Senior career". That note indicates "Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only". So the number is correct. The 174 caps and 82 goals is what appears in the infobox. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:09, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Protection Level

Why isn't this page permanently protected. Pages like Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi are permanently protected so why not this page. I mean it gets protected but at small time lengths and as soon as its unprotected the page is vandalized by IP addresses. It's not vandalized as much I suppose. It doesn't need to be semi-protected. Protection is a very harsh step. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:18, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

This would be a good time to point out that two clubs agreeing to a deal does not mean a player has moved. It simply sets the price for a possible transfer and that the player is now free to talk to the destination club. And once a player has agreed to terms, he has to pass physicals before putting pen to paper. THEN the transfer is complete. --Mosmof (talk) 19:43, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Robin Van Persie is having his medical at Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail. This better read that he is a United player within the next few hours, someone's so desperate for him to remain an Arsenal player. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.106.82.35 (talk) 22:17, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Change club to Manchester United

195.171.24.2 (talk) 10:48, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Van Persie plays for Arsenal until such time as another team officially announces that he is playing for them

And ideally, he shows-up in their kit on the field of play. Please stop asking editors to change the article to reflect rumours and hearsay regardless of how reliable you think those sources may be. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:57, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Absolutely. Yes terms and fee has been agreed. Van Persie is currently doing medical checks and is not a Manchester United player until officially announced. Wikipedia should have the -current- status, and not the future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catchy875 (talkcontribs) 03:22, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Height and Weight

Soccerway lists his height at 184 cm and weight at 69 kg but his official website says otherwise. Which is right? --Mr. Mario (talk) 23:39, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Why are we taking our info from Soccerway? Surely the player himself would know his own body better than anyone. – PeeJay 23:45, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Agree. His website is probably the best source when it comes to height and weight. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 00:55, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

  • van Persie is not squad number 10 at Manchester United, his number is yet to be revealed but may be 9 or 29.
  • Certain parts of the article are wrote in the present tense when they should be in previous tense, such as 'Van Persie is currently the top goal-scorer in the Premier League with 30 goals,[76] and Arsenal's 8th all-time top scorer with 132 goals.'
  • A new section is required for his transfer to Manchester United
  • Current squad template needs changing from Arsenal to Manchester United
  • Categories need adding to the bottom of the article such as Category:Manchester United F.C. players

Any chance of updating the main picture of RvP to that of one in a Manchester United strip?

If you have a picture that you took or that someone has given permission for you to use of van Persie then by all means go ahead and upload. Cheers. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 00:32, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
I just want to clarify something. If "that someone has given permission for you to use" a picture of Van Persie, that person must be the copyright holder of that image. I've had to tag several images for removal recently that are press release photos. While they are supposed to be used to publicize the subject, they are not usually available for use under the license terms that wikipedia uses. So if someone goes to a match or training session and takes a photo of Van Persie in his Man U kit, feel free to upload it. The best photos are usually from the knees up and not in active play. Warm-ups are the best time for this. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:22, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
Oh ya, and that. Thank you for clearing that up Walter. Cheers. --Arsenalkid700 (talk) 02:42, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia articles are not a reliable source for other Wikipedia articles. If the article you linked to had usable references then I could pull them from there, but that article is almost entirely unreferenced and is littered with {{citation needed}} tags. To get this information added to the Robin van Persie article, my suggestion would be to add some reliable sources to the Goal of the Month article (it's not protected as this one is) which could then also be added to this article. --ElHef (Meep?) 22:49, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

This achievement should be added to the 2nd paragraph from the beginning, and to his Manchester United career section (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_van_Persie#Manchester_United)

In the introduction of this article, I found the following sentence: "He is recognized as one of the best strikers in the world". Shouldn't recognized be recognised, since this page is concerning a Dutch footballplayer, currently playing ten years in England. It is my belief that this page has more affinity with England, than with the United States, so British spelling should be used.

It's something small, but I think it's important.
