Split this page and individual cup pages?[edit]

A couple days back, I have learned that there exists a page called Women's Sevens World Cup, and that's through taking a glimpse at the International rugby union template page. That page looked like it is in need of a serious fixing or a merger with this page, and I do have text files ready to make the proper changes should a split be possible. It's an interesting question. World Rugby promotes the RWC Sevens as one "meeting", for want of a better word, with both men's and women's competitions interleaved. There is only one logo used for the overall concept as well as each edition, for instance. Games are played at the same stadium (since the women's competition was added) and on the same three-day weekend. It is different in this respect to the 15-a-side Rugby World Cups which are totally distinct.
I think the handling of Wimbledon tennis (and other grand slams) is somewhat analogous. Wikipedia uses one "umbrella page" for the overall Championships, with separate subordinate articles for Gentlemen's and Ladies' competitions and so on. There is one umbrella page for each edition of Wimbledon, e.g. 2017, – plus respective sub-pages for the fine details of each competition.
An even closer example is the Wikipedia page for Rugby sevens at the 2016 Summer Olympics. This gives the overall summary of rugby sevens at that games, and there are are separate Men's and Women's pages for the full details of each competition. I think this approach may match the RWC Sevens as well. -- Ham105 (talk) 01:34, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that Women's Sevens World Cup be merged into Rugby World Cup Sevens. A lot of the content in the former, aside from only receiving sporadic edits in the past few years, overlaps with information in the 2009 and 2013 cups, and the latter covers both men's and women's tournaments anyways. Some information (especially the squad compositions and some scoring statistics) can be applied to the relevant tournament pages. GrafVonTirol (talk) 06:16, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
