Shantae on GBA[edit]

According to TASVideos, "Shantae (...) recognizes whether it is running on a GBA, and utilizes GBA's hardware features if available." This sounds very interesting, but it isn't mentioned in the article. Does anyone know something about this? 85.233.38.96 (talk) 14:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll finish this soon. JAGUAR  22:34, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments[edit]

  • The second sentence in the first paragraph of the lead is too long. I'd split it in half where "with a fourth entry" begins
  • "and acquires items which make her progressively stronger and unlock new abilities and locations" - as well as unlocking
  • "even if it did show support for the new handheld, as special features are available when played on a Game Boy Advance" - informal
  • Can the comparability with the Game Boy Advanced be elaborated in the lead?
  • "the game received favourable reviews and has garnered recognition since its release, being ranked among the best games on the platform" - did critics officially state this?
  • "Shantae is a platform adventure game" - link platform game and adventure game
  • "adventure game in which players play as the eponymous Shantae" - comma needed in between "adventure" and "game"
  • No gameplay image?
  • "After, she's magically abducted to a place called the Genie Realm" - she is
  • "the game was planned for the Super NES or PC" - SNES?
  • "alongside the fact that launching a new IP was considered risky" - elaborate IP
  • "and the Game Boy Advance was released in the meantime" - informal
  • "The sound was, by 2000, developed in Musyx audio format" - The sound was developed in 2000
  • "WayForward Technologies never actually released sales figures for the game, but the game's creator Matt Bozon acknowledges it has sold poorly" - informal and not encyclopaedic
  • The first paragraph of the Sales and analysis section is informal and unsourced
  • GamesRadar shouldn't be italicised

On hold[edit]

The things that worry me most are fears of original research and the informality of most sentences in the article. Some of it needs a copyedit and if you get stuck I'd recommend asking some people at WP:VG, as they'll know what I'm on about. I'll leave this on hold for seven days. @Jaguar: I think I have fixed everything you pointed out in your initial set of comments.--IDVtalk 22:52, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! OK, with them all out of the way I'd say this article has improved a great deal and should meet the GA criteria. Good work, IDV. JAGUAR  22:58, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks IDV for taking care of this while I was away. Glad the article passed.88.182.48.88 (talk) 08:56, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Emulation and the Switch version[edit]

Just to be clear, the issue with "emulated versions" is when they are released as one of many for a standard emulator, such as the Virtual Console (which is why the 3DS release isn't in the infobox). This game, however, is not that -- it's a port using an emulator as its base. As I said in my edit summery, there are many, MANY games that are like this. Also, the fact that there's a physical release should be considered, even if in general anything emulated were to get a pass. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 05:23, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The game itself was never ported, it's just a modified ROM. And the emulator is not part of the game. This is the reason why there can be commercial re-releases of DOS games on digital stores (and even physical releases) using DOSBox without requiring disclosure of the source code for the actual game that it's being sold. --Lugamo94 (talk) 05:54, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is precedent for this via the Wii version of Super Mario All-Stars. If that, a featured article, has no issues treating the Wii version as a separate release, I don't see how this doesn't qualify either. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 13:59, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. I still think that it's a contradiction (since it's essentially the same thing as a regular Virtual Console release, the game it's not running natively in the new platform), but I won't remove the emulated Switch release from the Infobox (and the category) anymore. --Lugamo94 (talk) 15:05, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
