Reputation[edit]

As a former pupil, I can confirm that the school does have a reputation for 'stupid pupils'. Naturally this rep is unfair, and stems from the fact that it does concentrate a little more on sports than other similar schools and, importantly, provides extra academic support to those pupils who need it. Perhaps these latter facts should be mentioned. --jazzle 09:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is somewhat disingenuous of Mike Edwards, an employee of Shiplake, (see the school website), to be removing a link to an article on the ranking of school academic results, just because Shiplake came bottom of the results table. While it is understandable that he might not want this emphasised on Wikipedia's entry on Shiplake College; Wikipedia does attempt to be accurate and list sources. As far as Shiplake's reputation is concerned, its pupils are regarded as academically challenged, and it is not an exageration to say that Shiplake is regarded as the joke public school by pupils of other academic institutions. --shiplaker - 30 August 2006 (UTC)

NPOV, advert, references[edit]

I have tried to improve the article but it is resistant to my efforts. I cannot find decent third party references (see WP:RS) to support any of the claims, and even the school's website doesn't appear to mention (eg) the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Mr Stephen 13:15, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nice try tho, the article certainly looks better and is somewhat balanced. --shiplaker - 30 August 2006 (UTC)

At last, a decent NPOW wikified version! Did one such version myself, not so great as this one, but it got reverted and I really did't have the time to get into a war over it. Let's hope it stays like this now! Richardbates2002

Ethos[edit]

I've removed the ethos section which was written by the school.[1] There's nothing wrong with describing the ethos either as it's described independently, or in appropriate context as the school describes it, but we are not their brochure. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:39, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Headmaster quotes[edit]

I've removed the headmaster quotes.[2] It's not clear who picked them or how, where they came from, or why they were included here. They are unverifiable, and their selection and inclusion constitutes original research. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:39, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There appear to be two "shiplake..." editors at work here - one of whom has been "doing down" the school since 2006 and the other who has recently been adding semi promotional puff. In the interest of all other editors these should either stop editing this article or work towards presenting a balanced viewpoint. Motmit (talk) 18:41, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did wonder about that. It seems the 'down' editor recently restored some of the puff which threw me for a while. Such editors usually get blocked fairly quickly once they're noticed. I'll just echo Motmit's comments. Let's please stick to Wikipedia's core policies or WP:V, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:50, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

COI tag (March 2022)[edit]

User:ShiplakeNew has been creating edits to this page since 2014. Some of the article reads like promotional material, only focusing on the schools successes and pupils achievements. Bailo26 Talk to me 18:10, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
