Removed content[edit]

An individual is attempting to remove sourced content about the history of the school. I have asked the editors at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Schools to add this article to their watchlists. — BillHPike (talk, contribs) 17:54, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Original property[edit]

I've come across several cases in Georgia where public property (buses, school buildings, books, and more) was donated to segregation academies such as this one, further crippling public education which then had to replace the public property. I haven't been able to find any reliable sources about when and how the Haddock family, which donated the campus of Damascus High School to this seg academy, came to own a public high school in the first place. It sounds like a very unusual arrangement. Any help in finding sources would be appreciated. Jacona (talk) 19:58, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Actually, we should try to consolidate a full history of the public school here. It seems to me the fact that this former public school became a seg academy is the single most notable fact here. As it is alluded to even in the school's version of its history, we can add something now. John from Idegon (talk) 21:06, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Kelhaddock, can you provide any secondary sources like books magazines or newspapers that discuss the closure of Damascus HS and the opening of SGA? You do want to make sure the coverage of the school your family founded is completely accurate, don't you? It sounds like you have family members that are notable enough for Wikipedia biographies too. Have any names or sources for them? It sounds like your family was quite important in the area. We should have complete coverage of your whole family, all the way back to when they first came from Europe. John from Idegon (talk) 22:44, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @John from Idegon - thank you. I can get you some sources absolutely. And the history I had been posting - my husband helped to write it so it for the website so really was not too much a copyright infringement. Happy to get you some sources if you can just give me some time. Thanks! Kelhaddock (talk) 23:52, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kelhaddock: Thank you! I spent some time yesterday trying to find out about the original school, and was going to ask you at your talk page today whether you could help us out with newspaper or book sources on it. I understand from the history of Southwest Georgia Academy that the land was donated with the restriction that it would revert to the family if no longer used for a school, but I'd love to know more. In addition, can you get us published enrollment figures for both the high school and SGA? On copyright, by the way, this is a serious matter on Wikipedia because under our license, anything on the site can be republished by anyone, including commercially, so long as they provide attribution—beneath the edit window as I type, it says in small print, "By publishing changes, ... you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL". So if we publish someone else's words or images, we've exposed them to reuse and deprived the owner of their rights. With very few exceptions for low-resolution copies of images clearly labeled as non-free and with a use rationale for the article in which they appear. Wikipedia:Copyrights is the full explanation and this is a summary for editors. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:42, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kelhaddock: It's been three weeks since you offered sources, here and at User talk:Yngvadottir. Have you been able to find anything yet? Thanks in advance! Jacona (talk) 20:37, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
