Protecting this article?[edit]

I took the test this year and I got a 549. I got into Bronx Science. Not good enough, I want to go to Stuyvesant. My friend told me her friend got a 553 and gotten into Stuyvesant.And Im just 4 points away. I am very dissapointed. That's why I want to see if I can join the Discovery Program, I think I'm qualified, except I don'y know how close they want me to be to the Cut-off score. But my guidance counceler told me the Discovery Program was only for people who did not get into Brooklyn Tech , and was really close.   • Several anonymous editors recently put what I assume are supposed to be qualifying scores next to each school's name. The source for these numbers needs to be clearly cited. RossPatterson 04:13, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

      • They change yearly, based on how many apply and their scores. They take the top of each applicant pool. I took the test last year, and almost all of the information in this article is wrong. This article is in need of complete revision by an expert. Robert 02:12, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
        • I'm not surprised at the above comments, they jive with my experience as a Stuyvesant student 30 years ago :-) Thanks for the citations, Robert. I consolidated them together since I never meant to ask for individual references for which schools are covered by the test but rather for the doubtful statements about the scores. At one point (1990) they used to tell you your raw score and rank. I took the test twice -- I was #12 in NYC the first time (2 wrong) and #1 (amongst 9th graders) the second time (perfect score). Scores again[edit]

I've just reverted edits by 70.19.18.3 and 68.161.123.169 that inserted some cutoff scores of unknown vintage. I wholehearted support including the scores in the article. But since this is a perennial bone of contention among the schools, we can't just post the numbers. Anyone who has numbers to add: Please include a citation that says where you got the numbers from, some place that is reliable and can be checked. RossPatterson 05:01, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The scores I put down (478, and 553 for Stuy)can be checked. I got them from Insideschools.org, but I don't know how to put citations in. You can check on the website if you like. SSHSAT?[edit]

I remember that the test used to be called the SSHSAT (Specialized Science High Schools Admissions Test), but then they dropped the Science part. Can someone confirm this and the year that they dropped it? AkvoD3 19:16, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes and no. It is currently called "Specialized High Schools Admissions Test", but I don't know when it changed. Check the references of the article for the source. RossPatterson 21:14, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I found on this website that it was called so because the original three high schools were mainly based on science. This is only my guess, but that means that it was dropped in 2002, when American Studies was added as a specialized high school, since its emphasis is on history.
