Prime Ministerial appointment references?[edit]

Hi can someone add some references? I'm on a sprint at work and don't know how to do it properly.

Portrait image is candidate for speedy deletion[edit]

The current image used in the infobox (Surayud_Chulanont.jpg) unsourced and unlicensed. It is most probably taken from somebody else's work. It will be deleted within 7 days. Either replace it with something compatable with Wikipedia's license or don't use a photo. Patiwat 08:16, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I saw the 'enough economy' and I've replaced it with 'sufficiency economy'instead. By the way, I thought that was the only mistake. I scrolled down just to see that there are millions of grammatical mistakes and the information setting requires a total clean-up task. Far from wikipedia' standard. I haven't the time. Anyone, please. Rachmaninoff

Neutrality and Cleanup[edit]

The grammar and setup of this article is atrocious, and there are instances of blatant opinion. One example of both: "Some may misunderstanding this as drawback to aricultureal, but it is not!!!" Someone who knows more about the subject needs to fix this article badly. The worst is 'sufficiency economy' but there are problems with the other sections of the article as well: "He like to travel for 2 or 3 days in the forest since young. He also do many activities to protect nature and is the president in an Khao-Yai Natural Park association." SLC1 05:11, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • SLC1, you'd better find out more accurate information first before blindly criticizing me for rectifying one of the sections to 'sufficiency economy' as 'worst grammatical mistake '. I was simply quoting the official name of the philosophy of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Check this out at http://www.sufficiencyeconomy.org or try to google it using the name. Whatever it is, SLC1, I think that your intellect has got more problems than this article, sorry, if it ever exists. Rachmaninoff
*I wasn't criticizing the title, I have no knowledge of Thai politics or economics. Rather I was criticizing the content which is presented as a defense of the sufficiency economy, as opposed to Wikipedia's NPOV, and with poor English at that. I apologize for any confusion. SLC1 05:58, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That section was POV, original research, not related to the subject of the article, improperly written, and cited no references. I have deleted it. If you want to write a section on the Sufficiency Economy philosphy of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, then write it in the article on King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Patiwat 23:50, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Poll numbers[edit]

By early November, this fell to 55% approving and 15% disapproving [of Surayud as PM]. For comparison, a nation-wide poll in July 2006 found that 49% of respondants would have voted for Thaksin Shinawatra in the cancelled October elections.

These two numbers are not comparable. There is no way Surayud would get anything like 55 percent of the vote if he ran as a candidate in an election. The editor appears to draw the conclusion that Surayud is more popular than Thaksin was, which is ridiculous. What was the approval rating for Thaksin (or Chuan, or Anand) a month after their appointment as PM? The would make more sense as a comparison. Kauffner 15:59, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Surge in drug use under Surayud[edit]

Every Thai I've talk to about Surayud complains about the upsurge in drug use since Thaksin left. I haven't noticed anything myself, but I've talk to drug usage consulars, people who should know. There is nothing about this in the article now -- I hope we can change it. Kauffner 18:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I haven't seen any published references on this so far. Patiwat 17:02, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why the POV tag?[edit]

An editor placed the POV tag on the article. Please give provide some concrete examples of POV. Patiwat 15:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality Issue[edit]

There is a serious neutrality issue here and seems to come from one particular person. It is quite obvious for most Thais that the contents are one-sided and only bash Sarayud and the current government. The level of bias is so high, instead of convincing, it rather undermine the article's integrity. Most of the references are selective and put together to suit the motive. For example, the quote from Karun Chandrarangsu saying that the govn't is not doing anything only to blame others. Karun is a close relative to Srisuk Chandrarangsu whom used to sit in AOT board and being investigated for several scandles. Moreover Karun was a party-list MP candidate for Thai Rak Thai party in one of the previous election. It is questionable where Karun's position stands. A quote from someone with such close tie with the previous government is not really a credible one at all. Moreover, there are no mentions of any corruption and scandle investigations on previous government despite being one of the current government key implementation. • This article is on Surayud Chulanont, not the previous government, its alleged crimes, or the investigations of Khunying Jaruvan. To learn more about the these topics, the reader should see the articles on Jaruvan Maintaka#Assets Examination Committee or Thaksin Shinawatra#Legal charges. Also note that Jaruvan's work is totally independent of Surayud - she was appointed directly by Big Boss Sonthi. Surayud has nothing to do with it.
  • If you have any alternative references that you'd like to add to the article, go ahead! I'm not stopping you. But if you've read the newspapers for the past several months, it seems that praise for Surayud is very thin. I've tried to add as many as I can, but there really aren't that many. Even Phoojatkarn criticizes Surayud.
  • It would be just as inapproprirate to remove a reference to the Surayud-critic on this article, as it would be to remove a reference to a Thaksin-critic in a Thaksin article. Again, if you have any material and references that praises Surayud, go ahead and add them. Patiwat 06:41, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Who is neutral?

I don't think the phase "It is quite obvious for most Thais that the contents are one-sided" is helpful, the author should speak for his or herself unless they some real evidence of what 'most Thais think' can be provided. In fact, the writer weakens their own point by making this assertion as it sounds like propaganda and brings their neutrality into question. Any government, particularly one that comes to power force of arms will be open to critism of their motives and it is up to them to demonstate their good faith by actions. Most Thai people that I know have serious concerns about the new government, but still hope for the best. (User: Pet Dane) 20/4/2007 15:47

Obvious Smear Campaign[edit]

Very biased article. Seems more like a smear campaign more than a Wiki article. Yes I understand that all the quotes are referenced, but when I look at the wiki article of Thaksin who is his policatal counterpart and also would have 1000's of sourced references for human rights abuse and corruption, I find none of those within the article. This leads me to believe that there is a concentrated campaign by a certain party to actively use Wikipedia for political agendas. There are two possible solutions to this issue

1. To basically delete most of this article and only include basic facts. (yes I know all you have are sourced and thats why you should consider my 2nd option) 2. To go through the article on Thaksin and included sourced references and a tone similar to this article that methodically goes through and accuses everything that Thaksin has ever done wrong with appropriate references of course. I single out the Article on Thanksin because I understand that his legal staff is very active on Wikipedia using it for their own propaganda. And there is a good chance that the active smear campaign on this article came directly from that staff.

However I will no make any changes for at least a few days to give people time to respond. If there are no responses, then I will clean up this article to read like an encyclopedia article rather than a political opinion page.

If at that point, more editors (paid lawyers) come in and revert the changes with the argument that all of the points have been properly sourced, then I will goto the article on Thaksin and include similarly sourced material and wording.

I think that is fair enough. The point is that Wikipedia is not a place to engage in political wars. Wwind (talk) 12:35, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Head of state in infobox[edit]

There's currently a disturbance at the current Canadian prime minister's article, Stephen Harper, regarding the inclusion of the head of state in the article's infobox, and, following that, on all previous Canadian prime ministers' articles; currently the Canadian series is the only one, as far as I can tell, where the relevant head of state is not listed in the infobox.

As this article, and all those for previous Thai prime ministers, list the head of state in the infobox, I'm wondering how the decision to do so was reached, and if this practice should or should not be the same for all PMs' articles. It seems odd to me that one series of PM articles would be different to all the rest.

Opinions are welcome; needed actually. The discussion is taking place at Talk:Stephen Harper#Infobox -- include GG and monarch?. --G2bambino 15:46, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

updated info on Surayud's forest-grabbing[edit]

Shouldn't the criticism section on Surayud's forest grabbing be updated? In early 2010 Surayud was forced to give up his house on top of Khao yai Thiang mountain as well as the plot of land where it stood. the Royal Forestry department came in to take care of that plot of land. 122.0.3.123 (talk) 07:21, 23 February 2010 (UTC) thaivisitor[reply]

Fixed it myself. Let the updated truth be recorded out there. The Wiki community is of course most welcomed to improve my contribution with corrections, editing, additions of sources, etc. as you like. Just please don't delete this reference to this fact. 122.0.3.123 (talk) 05:15, 3 March 2010 (UTC)thaivisitor[reply]
