Untitled[edit]

It seems to me that the sections below the initial description are overly favourable to Taobao or, in other words, do not seem to adopt an objective point of view. Moreover, some sections, such as avoiding internet scams, seem to be outside the scope of coverage that one would expect on wikipedia.

They, it seems to me, should either be altered to sound from a 3rd party perspective (e.g. Taobao has released certain guidelines to assist users to avoid scams such as X and Y) or they should be deleted entirely (the preferred option). It does not seem that any source is indicated that would allow one to adopt the first approach. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.44.0.54 (talk) 08:40, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Changes being made[edit]

User:Winniechua0211/sandbox3
I made some of the changes by editing the grammar of the article, added some images and also I tried changing the writing style.

Image usage[edit]

Since http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tmall has been merged into this section, I am posting my question here. Tmall.com has been re-launched and has a new logo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tmall.com_Logo.jpg. I am struggling to find the right way to upload this to reflect the fact that I have obtained permission to use the logo.

Can someone help? The email trail is below.

We have received the permission for the image and have made the necessary modifications to the file page.

Thank you for providing this to us, and for your contribution to Wikipedia.

Name change[edit]

Hello. Taobao is now named "Taobao Marketplace." I can change the name in several places within the article, but is it possible to change the actual Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taobao) to "Taobao Marketplace" without re-creating the entire entry?

Sorry for the newbie question.

Merge[edit]

I saw User:Vze2656h split Taobao into Taobao Marketplace and Taobao Mall, because Alibaba's CEO Jack Ma announced that "Taobao" would be split into three companies: "Taobao Marketplace", "Taobao Mall" and "eTao".

In Chinese, "Taobao" and "Taobao Marketplace" is the same thing: "淘宝网", Taobao and Taobao Marketplace thus duplicated here. Considering the notability of these two names, Taobao Marketplace is recommended to be deleted and redirected to Taobao.

On both "Marketplace" and "Mall", people use the same service "Alipay" to pay, use the same software "Aliwangwang" to chat, use the same search engine "eTao" which indexes both Marketplace and Mall. The two sites link to each other, have the same layout. Users share a same account and same purchases/favorites lists at "Marketplace" and "Mall". No way one can be completely apart from another. The split is just about the operation of Taobao and Alibaba Group, they can be still considered as one big website. As a user I really don't see any change since then. The "Marketplace", "Mall" and "eTao" are only three parts of the website "Taobao". Buyers don't feel any difference between the "Taobao Marketplace" and "Taobao Mall", they don't care the B2C or C2C it is, or from which part they bought. Most users just simply call it "Taobao" rather than "Taobao Mall" or something.

So I don't see too much importance and notability that Taobao Mall could merit an independent article. Just like the third company "eTao" which Taobao's being split into, as the search engine of Taobao site, there can hardly be a seperated article for it. I recommend to merge content of Taobao Mall to Taobao#Taobao Mall, which I've already done some.

Taobao Marketplace is proposed be deleted because the duplicate is pretty obvious. I AfD'ed Taobao Mall, considering it deserves a discussion. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 12:21, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reputation of Taobao and its competitors[edit]

Taobao is the biggest C2C and B2C ecommerce service providers. The biggest problem of Taobao: All kinds of fake things are selling through this platform and it's not easy for customers to tell which one is fake or real.

360buy.com, Amazon China and Dangdang are the main competitors of Taobao in B2C area.

I think both of the above should be mentioned in the article. --Skyfree (talk) 05:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We may include news about the battle between the small and large businesses in Taobao, which is a historical event for the company's change in strategy.

Grammar[edit]

There are lots of grammar errors and inappropriate word choices appearing in the article. I had fixed the ones that I found out carefully. Nonetheless, there may be some getting left out. I wish people who see this message can help cleaning out those grammar errors. Thanks! Shenhaozhou (talk) 20:22, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

China/Taiwan terminology[edit]

Currently the article contains the phrasing "to consumers in China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan)." While the PRC claims ownership of Taiwan, they've never had control over it, and I'd imagine this phrasing is offensive to many if not most Taiwanese people. Perhaps changing "China" to "Greater China" would be more neutral? Or would that go too far in the other direction? Dsrguru (talk) 07:43, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Chinese-speaking regions" would probably be the most neutral - it would not only be factual, but it would also allow us to avoid the intricate cross-strait political issues. --benlisquareTCE 10:31, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That seems good. I've gone ahead and changed it. Dsrguru (talk) 23:49, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Some references are not reliable, the reference 26 and 27 are not reliable, they are from the company's commercial website. They are inappropriate. Some informations need citations and we can't use someone's own opinion in wikipedia. Some information is not correct, such as, it is said" Chinese single day is the biggest e-commerce sales day", actually Chinese single day is not an official holiday in China, it is a day created by e-companies in order to sale more goods. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xiaoyong He 1 (talkcontribs) 22:48, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mascot[edit]

The entire mascot section seems bizarre. Is any of the content about the celebration necessary? If so, it desperately needs citations. Avalanchian (talk) 11:18, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
