"In all, The slight majority of Jews in Norway survived, left, and while the majority of Norwegians tolerate them, Norway has its share of anti-semitism, mostly due to Israel and the Palestineans, but this is often seen as an excuse rather than a reason." - bad English, stupid and irrelevant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.42.246.190 (talk) 20:48, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A rename...[edit]

...to Holocaust in Norway is hereby suggested, in the right forum. Holocaust is simply the most well-known term, any counter-arguments? Punkmorten (talk) 09:12, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Catholic Church and the Protestant bishops letter[edit]

I removed a comment saying the Catholics did not sign the letter the Protestant bishops wrote to Quisling on 10 November 1942 protesting the treatment of the Jews. The link in the reference is apparently to a copy of the letter itself, which I could not open. The comment about the Catholics not signing is surely true, but it is, I think, original research because it comments on something "missing" from the original document. On that basis alone it should be removed. If it stays (and it should not) then we have to list all the other non-Protestant churches that did not sign: Catholics, Jews, Buddhists, Bahai, Humanists, Zoroastrians, Sikhs, Hindus, etc. Also, the Catholic presence in Norway in 1942 was about 3,000 members, so I'm not sure if it could even be considered part of the "church establishment". --Kenatipo speak! 16:32, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Further research shows that in 1949-1950 there were 4,306 Catholics in Norway out of a population of 3,082,245. (These numbers are from: catholic-hierarchy.org website, by country., and '49-50 are the closest population figures). This means, assuming that both populations either stayed the same or increased in the 5 years after the war, that the Catholic population of Norway around the time of WWII represented 0.14% of the Norwegian population. In addition, the first Catholic diocese in Norway after the Reformation is the Diocese of Oslo which was elevated from an Apostolic Vicariate in June 1953. So, there were not "several (Catholic) bishops" in Norway in 1942, there was only 1, Jacques Mangers, and his diocese was the titular see of Selia (Selja, Selje). My point is that the Catholic presence in Norway was so small (less than 2 tenths of 1%) in 1942 that the Catholic leadership may not have even been asked to sign the letter to Quisling. Does anyone know for sure? --Kenatipo speak! 15:53, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Deportation and mass murder" section[edit]

I have removed

"During these months, Leo Eitinger and two students taught the children so they could keep up with their education. Books and supplies were smuggled into the prison."

The text was part of "Deportation and mass murder" section, and I did not find enough relevance.--85.166.141.237 (talk) 12:37, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"over time, the Norwegian resistance organizations financed the escape for those who were destitute"[edit]

Some Jews were helped by members of at least one Resistance organization. The above quote needs a rewrite. --Netsilo (talk) 13:47, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Literature[edit]

In 2020, at least two books were published.
The one book received a review that included "The review [in the book] sheds light on subjects that hardly have been written about previously, and [the book] adds important, new knowledge".
[1] "Gjennomgangen belyser emner det knapt er skrevet om før, og tilfører viktig ny kunnskap." 89.8.107.228 (talk) 16:14, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
