Untitled[edit]

The translation to spanish of tillage is "labrar" the link to that page in spanish (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrar) is missing here. Camiloalcantara 10:50, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the "purposes of tillage" be placed earlier in the article? Mtrentvander —Preceding undated comment added 17:26, 11 March 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Cultivation links here, although tillage is obviously only one part of Cultivation. There is another page called Intensive gathering which seems to be an obscure name for what is more or less Cultivation. (Not that I'm an expert, just going by what's written there.)

Would it make sense to move Intensive gathering to Cultivation? Regards, Ben Aveling 11:47, 25 April 2006 (UTC) (I'm asking here because Intensive gathering and Cultivation both seems pretty unmaintained.)[reply]

Going by the Intensive gathering page, I'd say that intensive gathering means giving some limited care to some wild plants. AlbertCahalan 04:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the page again, I see "cultivation [...] additionally requires systematic soil preparation and planting", so it's not exactly the same thing, as you point out. Still, I think that that the page is so stubby that perhaps it deserves to be merged? Ben Aveling 11:20, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cultivation should definitely be a separate article, if anything tillage should be part of cultivation, not the other way around.Shinzon se 07:24, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tillage and Cultivation are clearly and historically two very different things. Currently the article starts with "tillage or cultivation". This in incorrect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.66.236.249 (talk) 22:33, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I created a page called soybean management practices. I was wondering if you would take look and tell me what you think. User:Berkt —Preceding comment was added at 04:44, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to make a new cultivation page soon, to incorporate "the act of raising or growing plants (especially on a large scale)". Currently we're missing just a basic article for this practice, where we can summarize all of the aspects of crop growing. II | (t - c) 01:57, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Environmental impacts[edit]

Flagging as dubious. I am highly skeptical of the claim that tillage-derived windborne sediment is a component of the "natural" marine carbon sink. Please provide references or i will strike it from the article. SReynhout (talk) 17:39, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

( Zone Tillage -> Tillage ) My bad, forgot to start a discussion. I don't know why, but feels fairly obvious... any reason why this SHOULDN'T happen? θvξrmagξ spellbook 02:16, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support none that I can see. Delsion23 (talk) 01:12, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I was about to perform the merge. When I put it into place in the Tillage article, I found it gave the topic too much weight, it was more on par with No-till, Strip-Till and Mulch-till which just have a line each with a link to the separate article. I think zone tillage should have the same treatment.--Salix (talk): 19:26, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I think that no-till is not on par with what essentially are "types of tillage". It seems that no-till has a very large article, which is great (it is an important issue). Types of tillage should go under "Tillage" and be filed under prominent sections. As a result, imo strip-till and mulch-till should also be merged and their pages replaced with redirects to Tillage (they are only a paragraph each anyhow). difference between strip-till and zone tillage?[edit]

this article seems to describe both as tilling just the planting row, so the difference is unclear. The strip-till article does not even mention "zone tillage". So how do these techniques differ? 76.119.30.87 (talk) 20:19, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest to Split the "Site preparation of forest land" part[edit]

Reason:

  1. "Site preparation of forest land" and "Tillage" are different things actually.
  2. "Site preparation of forest land" part is too heavy that is taking the lead of this article.

User:Ma3r: I think this section needs to be cleaned up. Also, the heading sounds grammatically wrong to me. "Forest land site preparation" is one possible replacement, but I'm not sure about that either. I'll post on the forestry wikiproject for more input. Regards, DesertPipeline (talk) 09:02, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that a duplicate of the "Site preparation of forest land" section exists at Silviculture#Site preparation. Should we remove the section from Tillage and leave the section at Silviculture? Hanif Al Husaini (talk) 17:06, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
