Heritage

If Mr. Romo's grandfather immigrated to America, then that would make Tony a "second" generation Mexican-American, not a "third" generation Mexican-American as described in the text. In this case, the descendant of the immigrant (Tony's father) would be a first generation Mexican-American, which in turns would make Tony Romo a second generation Mexican-American. The mistake made in the text is very common to the unschooled. I completely agree. His grandfather was 100% Mexican and immigrated into the US. His father (born in the US) was a First Generation Mexican American. Quick question here, is Romo also the holder during a FG attempt? Duh no. He can't kick a ball.

They are referring to TonyHomo.com, if you are in the dark on this one. Still, it is not appropriate. Let Drew Bledsoe's 3889 career completions and 251 touchdown passes, plus a Hall of Fame bid, do the talking.

Incorrect. He's no longer the holder because he's the starting quarterback to start the year, not because of what happened at Seattle. He was only holding because Bledsoe (the backup QB at that time) had never done it before. Johnson holds this year because he's the backup.Kirobaito 01:34, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

That was the Jan. 6, 2007 playoff game against Seattle where he got the snap OK, but fumbled as he tried to set the ball down in position to be kicked. The ball could not be kicked, and I find: "Romo then tried to run into the end zone for an impromptu touchdown, but was tackled at the one-yard line". The line I just quoted needs some fixes. He was trying to either score a touchdown or get a 1st down (1st down without touchdown would have been at the 1?) and was tackled short of both. ?Where is the source for this? ALl other Internet sources for Wisconsin Mr. Basketball list Jose Winston as 98 WI Mr. Basketball. Nothing on Caron Butler's personal bio, either here or on nba.com, list him as ever having won the award. It's even less likely that Romo finished second, as he was only honorable mention for his own district team. QB rating

Shouldn't some one mention he has a 148.9 QB rating?

Drew Bledsoe once had a 337.2 quarterback rating in a single game. Odd, seeing as how most NFL quarterbacks seemingly can't exceed 158.3!

They can go over 158.3, but they only record it 158.3 for some reason. Like if you throw 15-15, 200 yds, 3 TD, 0 Int, you get 205.7 or some rating on calc. But for some reason, you only get recorded as 158.3.

Quincy Carter cocaine allegations

This needs to be cited. Last I knew it was not public knowledge exactly what drugs Carter was using and under what circumstances he was kicked off the team. There's no mention of it in Carter's article either so if it is verifiable then it needs to be cited here and added to the Quincy Carter article. If it's not verifiable, it needs to be deleted.

I don't see the point of talking about Carters cocaine allegations on Romos wikipedia anyway. That part of Quincy Carter should be stated on Carters and Carters only. ETod09 21:57, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Henson / Bledsoe

Romo had a strong showing in the 2006 pre-season, especially when compared to Drew Henson's performance

This sentence was edited (I'm too lazy to find it) to change Henson to Bledsoe. Reading Henson's bio, it seems pretty clear the original intent was to say that Romo edged out Henson for the backup role in the 2006 preseason. But obviously it could plausibly be meant to indicate bledsoe. This is a pretty well known piece of NFL satire, should it be included in the external links section? I've seen it added and removed a few times, let's try to reach a consensus. --NEMT 22:32, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

OK, here's a starting point: What existing WP guidelines exist for whether a link on a topic is encyclopedic or appropriate for an article? I can envision some cases where a satirical site would be considered appropriate, but not every player lampoon site that comes along. Researching, I find that Links normally to be avoided tells us to avoid "11. Links to personal websites, including blogs and anonymous websites or webpages, except those allowed by policy (see WP:V)". Following on, the verifiability guideline has to do with factual verifiability; this implicitly suggests that satire blogs aren't excluded from item 11 unless they also provide some sort of authoritative facts on the subject.

I guess my question to anyone who wants to see this link preserved would be: What distinguishes this site from all the other fansites for Drew Bledsoe or Tony Romo or whomever? I'm open to being convinced that it has some unique value but I don't see too much latitude in WP guidelines to put in satire links just because the site is "pretty well known" or has a memorable domain name, or for that matter just because it's funny. I'm treading lightly though because I enjoy satire sites and am not sure if I want to make an argument leading to the conclusion that satirical links are always out of place on WP - PhilipR 23:42, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

From Wisconsin

On 11/30/06 I added that he was from Wisconsin (in Categories), which has since been removed (couldn't track down exact instance). Tony moved to Burlington, WI at age two where he remained until he left for college. I believe his family continues to reside there. If he is factually not "from" Wisconsin in some shape or form, can someone point me to the policy stating how "from" is defined. Favre's Influence

Romo is being compared to Brett Favre in style of play: "And Tony Romo has proven he's no flash in the pan. In fact, Romo's style of play and throwing motion reminds me of Favre. With comments like these, I thought it was important to mention in the article Favre's influence on Romo. Romo grew up in Wisconsin a Packers' fan, and Green Bay and Favre's rise to greatness happened when Romo was in High School. (His freshman year, Green Bay lost in the second round of the playoffs... to Dallas, his sophomore year, Green Bay lost in the NFC Championship game to Dallas. His junior and senior years, Green Bay went to the Super Bowl. Favre won MVP Romo's sophomore, junior, and senior years. Romo would watch Favre intently on Sundays, and then go out and play on Fridays. (Later, while playing for Eastern Illinois, Romo would go to Chicago Green Bay games in Illinois to see his idol. I think Favre's influence is over-stated. Romo was a fan of many quarterbacks growing up. It doesn't appear that he was influenced by Favre more than any other quarterbacks while he grew up in Wisconsin. The article says "Romo first saw the field on October 1st. [2006]" Maybe I'm being picky here, but people always talk like he stood on the sideline holding the clipboard until he became the starter. In fact, he held on field goals all year and was on the field for that before being the starter. "Just" South of Burlington?

The author probably means Michael Jackson, IL is just south of Champaign, IL (home of the University of IL). While Charleston is definitely south of Burlington, it is hardly "just" south. 2007 Update

During the Monday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills, Not only did Romo become the third Cowboy to throw 5 interceptions in a single game, he broke the cowboy record for the most 300+ yard passing games in one season. His overall stats were 5 Interceptions, 1 Lost Fumble, 2 Touchdown passes, and 309 Yards Passing. Most of his passing yards came after his 5th interception (3rd Quarter), proving that Romo is capable of overcoming huge hurdles; leading his team to an eventual win.

I don't think that would be wise. Check the protection log; whenever the protection expires or is removed, it almost always becomes necessary to reinstate the protection after a short while. Record-setting loss.

On Monday, September 21, 2009, in front of a record-setting crowd at the new Cowboys Stadium, costing over $1 billion, Romo led his team to a 33-31 loss to the rival New York Giants, led by former Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. Romo was outplayed by Manning, who doubled Romo's completions, yards, yards per completion, and touchdowns while throwing no interceptions to Romo's three. Romo's passer rating in the game was a dismal 29.6, thus continuing the team's tradition as an overpaid (the Cowboys are in fact the highest paid sport franchise in North America) soap opera consisting of choke artists.

Enought cannot be said about how much time and hype went into this game, being that it was the first game played in the new stadium. Among the crowd were LeBron James, George W. Bush, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irving, John Madden, and Pat Summerall, who witnessed such videos as one showing the mid-field emblem being transferred from Texas Stadium via outer-space. There were also clips shown comparing the stadium to an Egyptian pyramid and the Roman Colosseum. Romo had commented earlier that he expected the stadium to give the team "an incredible home-field advantage."

In the Cowboys' second game of the season, their first at their new billion-dollar home, Romo had an uncharacteristically poor performance for a quarterback of his experience, throwing 3 interceptions and numerous poorly thrown incomplete passes. This page needs to be amended now that Tony Romo is the all time leader in touchdown passes for the Dallas Cowboys.

On December 2nd, 2012 in a Sunday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Tony Romo through 3 touchdown passes to pass Troy Aikman as the alltime touchdown leader for Dallas.

Tom Brady and Tony Romo are cousins?

Regarding Jan. 6, 2007 playoff game where Romo fumbled just after getting the snap on a FG attempt where he was the holder, I then find:

"Romo then tried to run into the end zone for an impromptu touchdown, but was tackled at the one-yard line"

At the minimum, please insert "or a first down" just after the comma. Someone needs to review whether he got to the 2 or the 1, but in any event it was short of a first down, so, it being 4th down, the ball went over to the other team (Seattle) on downs.

This source says he fumbled it on the Seattle 9-yard line, ran it 7 yards, and was downed at the 2-yard line (the source does not specify by whom). Seattle then took the ball at their own 2-yard line.

I'm no fan of the Dallas Cowboys or Romo (I'm actually a Seattle fan), but this article is really terrible and looks like it's become an outlet for people to heap praise or criticism on him. That whole paragraph has a ridiculous level of detail for one game, so I'm going to trim it down and ensure that it's worded in line with the source I found. —KuyaBriBri^Talk 15:53, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

OK, the point (now incorporated in this wikipedia article about Tony Romo) was that he had a first down available without a touchdown. He was short of both that 1st down and the touchdown. Thanks.
