Transportation in Taiwan[edit]

Where is the article supposed to be? There's a series of double redirects that mean the article has effectively disappeared. --Jza84 |  Talk  19:21, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This bot has detected that this page contains an image, Image:TWHW1.png, in a raster format. A replacement is available as a Scalable vector graphic (SVG) at File:Taiwan Highway 1.svg. If the replacement image is suitable please edit the article to use the vector version. Scalable vector graphics should be used in preference to raster for images that can easily represented in a vector graphic format. If this bot is in error, you may leave a bug report at its talk page Thanks SVnaGBot1 (talk) 15:01, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Transportation in TaiwanTransport in Taiwan — All but one other member of Category:Transport in Asia uses the word "Transport" over "Transportation." Other than the Ministry article, I don't see any reason to believe Taiwan favors one over the other, so I'll suggest it moves to conform with Transport in China, Transport in Japan, etc.--Mike Selinker (talk) 16:11, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rename to conform with the others. The whole point of the WP:ENGVAR guideline is to avoid upsetting speakers of a particular kind of English, but there is no reason to use any particular kind of English in an article about Taiwan. Unless Taiwan actually has some sort of rule to use American English, it should follow the same format as the rest of the category tree. McLerristarr | Mclay1 04:58, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • do not rename Above is not the reason why this or that English is used in WP. It is based on that the country actually uses when it uses English. For example, see the official site: Ministry of Transportation and Communications(in Chinese). This English use of 'transportation' is from the Taiwanese government itself, not some subsequent translation. Same at this site of the Executive Yuan of Taiwan: [1]. This should not be surprising, given the close relationship between American missionaries and the Republic of China and the continuing reltionship between the US and Taiwanese governments. Hmains (talk) 06:39, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • in addition, a review of the online editions of the 3 major English language newspapers in Taiwan (Taipei Times, Taiwan News and The China Post) shows consistent use of American English and no use of British English. Hmains (talk) 17:44, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Taiwain appears to favour American English. (such as that used by the offical government website, and the newspapers shown) 65.95.14.96 (talk) 07:14, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment – Would it perhaps be a good idea to make a project page containing the favoured English variation of each country so discussions like these are unnecessary? McLerristarr | Mclay1 07:30, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • Comment that doesn't account for specific topical usages, such as American Football/Baseball prefers US English, ice hockey prefers Canadian English, etc. -- for countries that do not have their own variant of English. 65.95.14.96 (talk) 08:58, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
        • An article on baseball in the UK would not prefer American English. Countries that do not have favoured variants would of course not be included. But some non-English-speaking countries seem to favour a particular form (usually Commonwealth countries with British English and East Asian countries with American English). McLerristarr | Mclay1 09:19, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose rename this is simply an ENGVAR issue. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)
