Assess[edit]

There are little of no UK schools that have GA status on Wikipedia. THis article is classifired "start" but should be a "B". It lacks references. Look at the ref tag and the references tag and get this marked up. This is a "high" importance school ... may even be top. The wiki article should be that good too. As a student in UCS, I can say as a FACT that the school does not have random drugs tests, and does most certainly NOT have a 100% drug free record! When I change this, why does someone always put it back...?

The capitalization of words is erratic, but I left most of it unchanged because of the differences between British and American capitalization. Professor O. K. Why are people who have never seen UCS editing this article? User Anskas should have full control over it, as he is currently a student there and seems a responsible user of wikipedia.

As far as I am concerned, anyone who adds something useful or helps to clean up the vandalism is welcome to contribute. Thank you for the corrections Art LaPella many of the typos are probably my fault. (user Ramw2)

Does anyone have any views on the following suggestions:

moving most of the first paragraph below the painting, creating a seperate page for Eminent OGs and sorting the eminent OGs by chronology (hard) or field (easier)?

I am removing the section that implies that UCS was the first school to teach German, as it is simply untrue. A very neat claim to fame maybe, but untrue nonetheless.

How is this for the school info box? Can anybody fix the problem with "houses"?

I am not certain whether describing UCS as 'famous' would be entirely accurate, its certainly well known in educational circles, but does not have the name recognition of, for example, Eton College, or Westminster School. Does anyone have any views on this? Ramw2 22:35, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have listed William Bingham Baring, 2nd Baron Ashburton as one of the founders, the history books say it was WM. Bingham Baring Esq. However I think it likely to be the same man (he didn't inherit the peerage until 1848).

Also, not sure which Viscount Sandon it was... Dudley Ryder, 1st Earl of Harrowby who was already an Earl and would not use a subsidiary title or Dudley Ryder, 2nd Earl of Harrowby but his wiki entry says he was a staunch defender of the established church.....

Paulatim Lodge[edit]

Surely this addition is just speculation. Can any OGs actually confirm this? —anskas

There is a Paulatim Lodge (it has an entry in The Gower), I think it is open to Old Gowers who also meet the Free Masons own criteria...

I don't recall being invited to join, but by definition they need to continually recruit OGs.

Also, why is it in the admissions section? May be better placed in school motto etc...

Introduction[edit]

I think the introduction should be shortened, and some content that is currently in there should be summarised with the full text being put in its own section e.g. book festival.

German[edit]

From 'An angel without wings' (about the school teaching german on its foundation, "(Which no other school in England tought at the time or for many years to come)". Clearly the claim is similar to the one which someone has previously called into doubt, does anyone have any evidence either way? Should it be put in the article with a source for the claim?

Help required on List of notable Old Gowers article[edit]

'The Gower'[edit]

As a West of Englander (by adoption!) I was surprised when the phrase 'The Gower' took me to the school, not to the beautiful piece of coast just over the Bristol Channel. Henry Brougham[edit]

The History section includes "Henry Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham and Vaux (who appears to be singled out as the ring leader in A tradition for Freedom)". Does it actually use "ring leader"?
