Who Invented Sampling Theorem[edit]

Be careful about giving too much credit to people about inventing the sampling theorem. Lots of people knew "Nyquist's Law", that you have to sample at twice the bandwidth. Mathematicians knew this from Fourier theory, and engineers knew it in the late 19th century as a rule of thumb.

However, there is another important and more subtle part of the sampling theorem, which is how much information is transmitted with each sample, for a given signal-to-noise ratio. I don't believe anyone before Kotelnikov and Shannon did that. DonPMitchell (talk) 09:00, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
