Cleanup[edit]

I noticed that this article has only one source (wcbc.edu). Let's try and find some more. I added the Template:One_source cleanup template. bendodge (talk) 23:11, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I added the Template:Fanpov template to this article. I'm a Christian myself, but this article is blatantly promotional. "...Opened its doors in September of 1995 to an energetic student body desiring to fulfill God's leading in their lives" sounds like something straight out of the marketing department. Other examples are "training laborers for the harvest" and "over 1,200 graduates circle the globe..." Many of these terms, such as "the harvest" could confuse anyone not familiar with Christian doctrine. bendodge (talk) 09:18, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well turnabout is fair play. Recently, Crown College (Tennessee) was listed as non-notable, and I gave this site as a reason why we should keep the article. I firmly believe that Colleges should remain on wikipedia. But I don't have time to go around and research every small Bible College, and write an article for them (this could be an argument for deleting them, since supposedly if it is notable, more people would be editting it). But I propose a compromise. What if we created an article called "Independent Baptist College", which gives a paragraph on the many colleges that would lack a certain notability. This could be supplemented with "Southern Baptist Colleges", "Presbyterian Colleges", etc. We could redirect West Coast Baptist College to this new article, so as to prevent us deleting an article and a month later it popping right back up again. Or even better get the alumni of these colleges to write more about their school. Just giving out options. Mgroop 14:12, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Student Body Size[edit]

Regarding the size of student body, I called the college and asked what their size was, that was where I got the 800 number. However that would be original research, and as such not appropriate for wiki. Anyway, this was the only reference I could find, and it sets the student body size 100 students smaller than the college's official number. So 800 would probably be more accurate (as of October 10, 2006), but 700 is the size given by a citable source. Mgroop 21:02, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As of the 2010 yearbook, the student body was at almost 1000 students. I don't have access to a more recent yearbook to update it to its current size. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.96.196.124 (talk) 21:47, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"perfect" versus "accurate"[edit]

On 4 October 2009, 67.239.161.28 edited the "Beliefs" section, replacing the word "accurate" by "perfect" so as to say "... the only perfect translation for the English speaking people is the King James Bible." One problem with this change is that there is no such thing as a perfect translation of a large text. See the Translation article for details. Another problem is that the sentence implies that WCBC has a Ruckmanite position on the KJV, which it does not.

Yes, the Word of God is perfect (Psalm 19:7), but that is a statement about the Word of God itself, not a statement about the work of a particular board of translators. It is as true to say that "the Word of God is perfect" in relation to the Geneva Bible as it is to say it in relation to the King James Version.

The bottom line is that WCBC does not have a Ruckmanite position on the KJV. Therefore, I have reverted to the earlier wording. Wideangle (talk) 21:25, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I believe that "perfect" is the more correct word to use. This is not only a Ruckmanite stand, but also the stand of all of the KJV only churches which I have attended. They are not only concerned with accuracy, but also perfection. They may concede that other versions are accurate translations of the source text, but the issue is that these are not perfect. Many do in fact believe that the KJV carries with it the perfection and preservation of the original text, though they do still use the original manuscripts to give illumination to the text. To avoid simply reverting the sentence, I have chosen to instead use words taken from the resource given. Kainosnous (talk) 11:54, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
