...is an accredited secondary and post-secondary institution, has been for a long time; who knows maybe that's a bluelink already. Climbing & retreat in Lillooet[edit]

The monastery's tradition of mountaineer monks should be mentioned, no? And the retreat up at Lillooet; I also know it was Benedictines from Mission who sang the mass at Ma Murray's funeral up there....Skookum1 (talk) 05:36, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The new church[edit]

There's no mention in the article yet of the new church added onto the original building; was it the same architect or ?? Doesn't it have something like a small-concert series? History[edit]

Hm, good question. I'm from Mission and although I know the Abbey well I don't recall any specifics about how the land came to be chosen. I suspect they were already Catholic lands, and had been previously attached to the OMI Lands attached to St. Mary's Residential School (might be wiki'd as St. Mary's Mission, though that's likely a disambig) that were parceled off to the Benedictine order when the site was chosen; but why it was chosen.....hmm, I recall something said in the course of one of the tours I took over the years....I suspect one of the monks may monitor this page, maybe they're out there to answer the question, likewise someone at the Mount Angel Abbey (the Abbey's motherhouse in Oregon) may have an answer. Re previous, they may not have been part of the OMI holdings, but were crown or private lands until acquired/designated for the Abbey, but I'm sure the situation next to St. Mary's, and to St. Mary's Grotto, the shrine on the west side of the OMI lands, now the Fraser River Heritage Park.Skookum1 (talk) 17:14, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
