List conference section[edit]

I removed the conference section, because those conferences are part of the United Methodist Church and composed of churches listed in the churches list. Irmgard 10:20, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That was not clear from the WMC source, thank. Paul foord 10:33, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Methodist work group[edit]

There is now a proposal for a WikiProject group, possibly initially a subproject of Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity, to deal with articles relating to the Methodist churches at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Methodism. Anyone interested in taking part in such a group should indicate their interest there. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 15:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistent statements about numbers[edit]

For many years, the World Methodist Council (WMC) has had three numbers regarding the people of its member churches on its website:

  1. "The World Methodist Council is made up of 80 Methodist, Wesleyan and related Uniting and United Churches representing over 80 million members in 138 countries." (page Member Churches)
  2. Total Members: "39,745,196" (about 40 million, page Statistical Information)
  3. Total Communion: "51,286,152" (about 51 million, page Statistical Information)

The number of members of its member churches is contradictory: "over 80 million members" (1) is twice the size of about 40 million (2). It is reasonable that the communion (3) is bigger than the number of members (2), isn't it? But it is not reasonable that the number of members (1) exceeds the communion (3). So I draw the conclusion that 40 million members is very likely the best number of members of the WMC's member churches available.

Additionally mentioned: Some years ago, I asked the WMC about these three figures on its website. From the head of the public relations department I got basically the following answer: The most reliable number is 40 million members. There is no basis for the number of 80 million members. Then the number of 80 million was replaced by 40 million and remained for some months on the page Member Churches. But later - the head of the PR department had changed - this number was altered again to 80 million regardless of the inconsistency of these three numbers on the WMC website. -- 2003:ED:EF10:7D00:DCD3:78BF:68BD:EDBA (talk) 19:48, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
