References[edit]

This article really does need to cite its references more thoroughly - such as about rowers representing national teams. Pjmc 00:27, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been updated - I have attempted to rectify some of the problems listed and have included more references. I intend to add more when time allows. I have also attempted to improve the quality of the article by using similar articles about other independent schools as a guide. Amspa (talk) 21:57, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The history section is very misleading. The school was not forced to close in 1977. The local authority (North Yorkshire) ran the school as a grammar school but in 1976/77 changed its educational policy to dispense with grammar schools and have all secondary 'comprehensive' schools. At the same time it decided to move the school from the increasingly unsuitable buildings to a new-build site on Green Lane. The new school was named Conyers'. The old grammar school site, including buildings, was bought privately in 1978 and established as an independent Yarm Grammar School. It seems to me that the current history section is based on the somewhat biased 'story' of the first headmaster and the PR-written publicity material for the Grammar School business. Public School Status[edit]

I am changing the status of the school from being a "public school" to being an "independent school" which is more appropriate. Pjmc 00:18, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the school labels itself as an 'Independent Grammar School'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.164.126.159 (talk) 19:55, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Old Yarumians[edit]

I changed the category to category:Old Yarumians as this is consistent with the other categories in category:Former pupils by school in England. Bobble hobble dobble (talk) 18:23, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Those categories are all over the place, a recent attempt to get consistency ended in no consensus to change anything. Several schools that use an Old Fooians form do not have the category under that jargon, this is a result of a mixture of individual CFDs and following the precedents those have set. Any change to an existing category should go through the standard process, not be arbitrarily changed. Timrollpickering (talk) 19:27, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Categories for discussion: nomination of various 'Former pupils' categories[edit]

The 'former pupils' category associated with this school has been nominated for renaming, along with all similar categories. Comments are invited at the categories' entry on the Categories for discussion page. Thank you. Occuli (talk) 15:22, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
