Consider New Section: Total Abolition of Voting Age Limits[edit]

I would like to propose adding a new section concerning the discussion on the total abolition of voting age limits. However, I am not sure whether it is more appropriate to add it under this article or rather in the article Voting age? What do you think? I suppose it rather fits in this section, as a youth and children's suffrage in its literal meaning would require the total abolition of any age limits (For further information on the issue, cf. my comment in the discussion-section of the Voting age-article). --N.Al-Saratan (talk) 21:54, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a section here for abolition and have tried to keep the Voting Age article focused on data and the youth suffrage article focused on arguments and debates about where to set the age with lots of linking back and forth. Superb Owl (talk) 20:35, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arguments For[edit]

The "Arguments For" and "Arguments Against" sections are very weak. I removed some of the more ridiculous unsourced claims in the "Arguments For" section. If anyone has any disagreements, feel free to say so. Alternatively, someone could make a more valid list. --RabidMonkeysEatGrass 03:05, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too lazy to check out what has been changed, I'll just add my two cents on what's there at the moment. It's not like there's anywhere else to say this anyways.
One of the arguments is that 16-year olds are legally permitted to have sex. In my opinion, a reference to the age of consent, which permits a person to have sex with an adult, is irrelevant, because having sex with an adult is no more dangerous than having sex with a peer.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a vocal supporter of youth suffrage and I'm okay with these arguments, but I thought that one needed to be rephrased, that's all. --80.235.46.66 (talk) 13:01, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, also, I'm not sure, but aren't 16 year olds classified differently in different legal systems? The world doesn't end at the state or US border. --80.235.46.66 (talk) 13:13, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In Britain and America The party in power is just on a see saw! going from Conservatives to Labour and from Labour to Conservatives (equivalent of Republicans to Democrats, then Democrats to Republicans) and so on. it probably won't change anything! 77.98.165.66 (talk) 18:54, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Crown Dependencies[edit]

Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man allow voting at age 16. See references at "Voting age". AJRG (talk) 13:47, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Arguments Section Is Unbalanced[edit]

There are six arguments in favour, none of which are criticised. There is only one argument against, and criticism of this argument is given more space than the argument itself. Robin S. Taylor (talk) 16:44, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In popular culture[edit]

I think s06e17 of The West Wing ("A Good Day") deserves a mention. Excerpts here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSDxg-bDw1A . Food for thought. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mczyzewski (talkcontribs) 17:01, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Arguments for and against youth suffrage"[edit]

This section should be divided into (i) an "Impact" section and an (ii) "Politics of Youth Suffrage" section. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 16:39, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Section Order[edit]

Shouldn't ==Arguments for and against youth suffrage==, ==Impact==, and ==Demeny voting== be before example countries (as of now US and VE)? Letting readers know the premise and understand the topic before giving them examples? TheKuygeriancontribs
