Imperial German plans for the invasion of the United Kingdom[edit]

Improved to Good Article status by Factotem (talk). Self-nominated at 15:50, 12 June 2018 (UTC).

  • The article itself is in perfect shape for DYK and it became a GA only yesterday, so it was definitely nominated in time. The only question I have left is whether the nominator needs to fulfill or has fulfilled the quid pro quo criterion, which I do not know how to check up on. --Katolophyromai (talk) 15:40, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
My first DYK nom, which as I understand exempts me from QPQ. Factotem (talk) 16:31, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
@Factotem: In that case, this review is complete and the article is ready to go. Excellent work! --Katolophyromai (talk) 16:39, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
  • Katolophyromai, the DYK review is expected to be independent of the GA review: you should check for neutrality, close paraphrasing/copyvio, etc., since more than one article that passed GAN was nevertheless found to have issues in these areas, and mentioned that you checked in your review. Equally important is the hook: the hook facts need to be cited by the end of the sentence in which a fact appears, and the hook must not exceed the maximum of 200 characters including spaces. Unfortunately, this hook is too long at 228 characters, so I have struck it. Factotem, can you please create a shorter alternate hook that meets the requirements for hook length (and start it with "... that "). Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:19, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
Alt-1
Alt-2

Apologies. First DYK nom, and really should have read the instructions better. Factotem (talk) 16:51, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

  • Not a problem. New review needed now that ALT hooks have been submitted that meet the length criterion; note that the review should check the criteria listed above as this does not appear to have been done in the original review. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:04, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Hi Factotem. For future reference it is helpful if you can repeat your reference immediately after your hook. Also for future reference, the three full stops of the ellipsis count against your character count. Your hook seems fine and I am willing to accept it, but can I suggest that you have tried to pack the whole story into the 200 characters, leaving little reason for the reader to click to find out more. Ie, your hook is not as hooky as it could be. So can I throw in the following as possibles. If you prefer ALT2 (ALT1 is too long at 203 characters) that's fine. If you want to tweak one of the suggestions below or come up with something completely different, that is also fine. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:54, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I think ALT3 is the best, but I'm not precious about it. I have, though, removed the unnecessary commas before "became". Factotem (talk) 17:57, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
@Factotem: OK. Thanks. Can we flag up your preference for ALT3 but leave the final choice to the DYK coordinator promoting this. Is that ok with you? Gog the Mild (talk) 10:03, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Fine by me. Factotem (talk) 10:17, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
