Link not working[edit]

I think the link created on this page is no longer working. For example

Ref#:83003496 Should link to THIS record.

So I think is template need to be modified in the following way.

{{#if:{{{url|}}}|http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/{{{refnum|{{{1}}}}}}.pdf|{{cite web|author=Staff|url=http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/{{{refnum|{{{1}}}}}}.pdf |title=NPS Focus: {{#if:{{{name|}}}|{{{name}}} (#{{{refnum|{{{1}}}}}})|{{{refnum|{{{1}}}}}}}}|publisher=[[National Park Service]]|work=National Register of Historic Places|accessdate={{{accessdate|}}}}}}}

I realized it is not the webpage as before, but I don't seem to be able to find a way to link to the search anymore.ARTEST4ECHO (talk) 15:58, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That link is given by {{NRHP nomination}} and would not be suitable to link to for all properties. The problem with linking to that for all sites on the NRHP is that not all of them have that document online. Many have a placeholder document that just says "This file has not yet been digitized" (e.g. "National Register of Historic Places Nomination: 74001389" (PDF).

), and so would lead to disappointment for many users who clicked it. This Focus link (Staff. "NPS Focus: 74001389". National Register of Historic Places. National Park Service.) on the other hand does give some information about that site, albeit only a skeletal record. Even for places with that file uploaded, however, the skeletal record includes some information not in the nomination file itself, such as the listing date.

Sometimes this Focus link is a little unresponsive, but if you try it a few times (maybe refresh the page if there are no results the first time), it should work. I just pulled up the record for #83003496 (listed as "Mormon Church" but included in National Register of Historic Places listings in Prescott, Arizona as "Former LDS Church", so that needs to be changed to reflect the name on the register) just fine.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 00:45, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, neither link seems to work for me ever. However, it may just be something with my computers firewall. If it's working for you all, then I wont make any changes.ARTEST4ECHO (talk) 21:15, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am having the same problem. Can't get any of the items on National Register of Historic Places listings in McLennan County, Texas to come up. Woodshed (talk) 15:04, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried a dozen or so in National Register of Historic Places listings in Douglas County, Kansas, none work. I know the link for "Old Lawrence City Hall" worked in September 2014 because I used the NRHP document to update those coordinates, in this edit. I can't seem to get to any useful information using "ADVANCED SEARCH", either, so it could be a long-term problem on their end, or I could be using the search incorrectly. In any case it ain't what it was 10 months ago. ―Mandruss  10:56, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging ARTEST4ECHO. Dudemanfellabra has been inactive for several months. ―Mandruss  11:11, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have never had the links work. {{NRHP Focus|74001389}} takes me to a page that read "No records found for current search. Please try again using another search or browse." That is all I have ever been able to get from any of these links. However, it seemed like no one else had problems, so I figured it was my computer. I have to deal with alot of issues due to our firewall. I still think there could be a better way to link these, however.--- ARTEST4ECHO(Talk) 16:57, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I'll ping Dudemanfellabra now, since there's no indication his absence is permanent. Or perhaps someone else who is knowledgeable can get involved. Per my comments above and the others, it seems worthy of a closer look. I'll keep this watchlisted for the time being, but I'd appreciate a ping anyway if this conversation is revived. ―Mandruss  23:54, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For example Ref#:83003496 Should link to THIS record. Or this record. The former may be easier because it uses the National Register Information System ID which is being fed to this template. The latter has the Asset ID in the URL. To get there, we need a way to translate the former ID to the latter. These two links are equivalent:

Alex Loeb Building is the only article currently transcluding {{NRHP nomination}}. That template goes to http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/
This template goes to http://nrhp.focus.nps.gov/natregadvancedsearch.doWbm1058 (talk) 14:46, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This Focus link (Staff. "NPS Focus: 74001389". National Register of Historic Places. National Park Service.) on the other hand does give some information about that site, albeit only a skeletal record. ( {{NRHP Focus|74001389}} )
That link now just pulls up http://focus.nps.gov/nrhp – the NPS Focus Digital Asset Search, where if you manually fill in the Reference Number box with "74001389", you get to:
http://focus.nps.gov/nrhp/AssetDetail?assetID=c4c820b1-3306-42ea-bb04-11c148ae68fd
which shows both the disappointing "The PDF file for this National Register record has not yet been digitized." message, and the Asset metadata "skeletal record".
So, we need to find a new URL syntax that automates that manual lookup. Wbm1058 (talk) 15:09, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't the time to analyze your work, but it sounds like you're closing in on a solution that would require a template change. Is there anyone listening who has the authority and knowledge to make such a change? ―Mandruss  19:47, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm a WP:Template editor, so I have the authority to edit the page, if I can figure out what change will work to fix the problem. Perhaps there is documentation on the NRHP Focus website that has the answer. I'll look. Wbm1058 (talk) 23:25, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your effort! ―Mandruss  19:17, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 30 March 2017[edit]

The website for Focus seems to have changed to https://npgallery.nps.gov as the original address redirects to there. I would suggest updating this in the template if possible. Jeanjung212 (talk) 15:44, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
