Why is the template a mess?[edit]

I was looking for the template so as to add it to the article on Loop 12, but it's not appropriate as currently formulated. The template says that whatever it's attached to isn't an article, and it also has misspellings ("attatched" or some such) and things that aren't filled in yet. Once the template is in decent shape, it would be a good idea to attach it to articles on roads that are specific to Dallas. Lawikitejana 09:05, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I replaced all "attached" with "attatched" a few days ago for some reason.. I probably should've checked the correct spelling before doing it. However, the template does not say that an article isn't an article unless someone specifies that. On the example at WikiProject Dallas, the template uses |class=NA so that Mathbot won't register it as an actual article. There are a lot of ways that this template can render.. it all depends on how you code it when you transclude it on the page per the instructions at Template:WikiProject Dallas. Or am I missing something you're trying to say..? let me know. drumguy8800 C T 18:16, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, also, for some reason when you use |needs-infobox=yes or some of the other auxiliary things at the bottom, it leaves too much space at the bottom, as you'll see at Loop 12's talk page. If you're familiar with wikicoding, could you look and see if you can fix it? Thanks drumguy8800 C T 18:17, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I don't know squat about wikicoding. Is there any kind of WP:Help page to which you could post where it might attract the attention of someone who does know wikicoding? Incidentally, it is shaping up but still has "If you would like to participate, you can [{{fullurl:{{{Template}}}WikiProject Dallas|action=edit}} edit] the article attached" in the middle ... is there any language and/or link you could substitute at that spot instead, just until the bugs are worked out of it? As you can see from my user page, I know only the most rudimentary things about how to make templates and use wikicode. :( Lawikitejana 07:02, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey. I actually figured out what was wrong with the excessive spacing thing earlier tonight.. I sorta got a hang of how the Wikipedia handles whitespace while building the {{Navigation tabs}} template. However, the problem you're noticing *only occurs* when you use the template on the Wikipedia:WikiProject administration pages. For example, it renders properly at Talk:Lake Highlands. drumguy8800 C T 11:01, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhah! I see what you mean. It doesn't work when rendering at Template:WikiProject Dallas. Well, I did a <noinclude> and <includeonly> work-around so now it only allows the edit link to appear when its actually transcluding the template. drumguy8800 C T 11:06, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Simplification[edit]

I am part of the new WikiProject Miami which is based on your WikiProject, but I can see you need some serious help with your template as it is overly complicated. It looks like you tried to do too much with it and over time with people messing with it, it became more difficult to deal with. I am going to simplify it based on our template which will take away some features, but it will be more functional and intuitive. It will be easier to add new features now.--Jorfer 01:49, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Label the Dallas flag?[edit]

At present, due to the fact that Fort Worth's flag symbol clearly shows the city name and Dallas' doesn't, the template looks as if it's really for Fort Worth. (I'm a lifelong Dallasite and don't remember ever having seen that Dallas flag before.) We might want to add a tiny "Dallas" either beneath the flag or somehow superimposed, so that the imagery is clearly indicating both cities. Lawikitejana 06:39, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's an interesting proposition. I'm surprised that you've never seen the flag flying before.. some places I know that fly them are of course, Dallas City Hall, the Dallas Police Headquarters, (.. most other civic buildings), and specifically the Lovers Lane overpass over North Central Expressway (US 75).. though that picture shows the University Park flags (the Dallas one is on a set flanking the opposite side). Anyway... the text pretty clearly shows that it's for all of DFW.. and superimposing "Dallas" would be creating a false representation of the flag. You can play around with it, I suppose. -- drumguy8800 C T 05:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

fullurl mechanism broken[edit]

The fullurl mechanism, which is used for adding comments and changing some of the settings, is broken. I fixed the most glaring error, which used fullurl to add yourself. I replaced it with a less-functional version that does not use fullurl. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 17:16, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New version of template[edit]

I've got an updated template at Template:WikiProject Dallas-Fort Worth/sandbox which uses WPBannerMeta. Any objections to using it? -- WOSlinker (talk) 09:43, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
