Proposed format of the Global Sports Cleanup Contest

The Golden Wiki Award, the top prize in the competition

Hello, and welcome to the Global Sports Cleanup Contest! This is a two-month backlog drive from [month] to [month] dedicated towards the improvement of poor-quality sports articles. The main tasks are expanding stub-class biographical articles and providing WP:SIGCOV[a] for the notable topics, while nominating for deletion articles which are not notable. Barnstars and other awards will be given out. Have fun!

The judges will be BeanieFan11 (talk · contribs · email) and [Name]. Feel free to reach out to them or on the talk page if you have any questions.

Stub lists[edit]

List of stubs by topic - to list all sports with decent amounts of qualifying articles

Awards[edit]

A list of all the different awards to be given out - I plan normal barnstars, like e.g. The Original Barnstar, but also want to create a few new ones for this task, e.g. The Lugstub Barnstar

Scoring system[edit]

All the different ways to earn points - still in construction

  • The primary goal of this drive is to improve existing poor-quality sports articles. To qualify for points, the article should be from one of the stub lists above. However, if you believe you have improved an article not from the stub lists that qualifies for points, you may still claim it and the judges will determine whether it counts.

Base points

  • For every sports article having a WP:SIGCOV source added, thus satisfying WP:SPORTCRIT, one (1) point is awarded.[j]
    • If two WP:SIGCOV sources are added, thus satisfying WP:GNG, two (2) points are awarded.
  • Four (4) points are rewarded for every article expanded significantly.
    • To determine what a "significant" expansion counts as, we will use the Did you know? criteria of 1,500 bytes of readable prose[k]
  • For every article successfully nominated for deletion from the lists of stubs, one (1) point is awarded – this includes articles which were deleted, redirected or merged, but not those closed as no consensus.
    • If the result was unanimous, with every !voter suggesting to delete, redirect or merge, then two (2) points will be awarded

Bonus points

  • Articles which were previously unreferenced will receive three times as many base points.
    • Further, if the article is a biography of a living person (BLP), it will receive 1.5 times as many base points, and if the BLP was previously un-referenced, it will receive four times as many base points.
  • If the article was created by Lugnuts, it will receive 2.5 times as many base points.
    • If the article was one of Lugnuts' draftified creations, it will be worth four times as many base points.
  • Articles created prior to 2018 will be worth twice as many base points, those created prior to 2013 will be worth 2.5 times as many base points, and articles created prior to 2008 will receive three times as many base points.

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Due to WP:NSPORT's requirement at WP:SPORTCRIT to provide significant coverage for all sports biography articles.
  2. ^ Lugnuts was known for creating enormous quantities of short stubs on athletes and was ultimately site-banned for a number of reasons. His articles have been the target of WP:LUGSTUBS and WP:LUGSTUBS2 proposals for mass draftifications. There are bonus points and an emphasis placed on Lugnuts-created articles as they could be targeted in similar RFCs.
  3. ^ Country lists are incomplete, particularly for the United Kingdom and the United States. This issue is being worked on.
  4. ^ Mainly cricket.
  5. ^ Mainly bobsled.
  6. ^ Mainly canoeing.
  7. ^ Through WP:LUGSTUBS and WP:LUGSTUBS2.
  8. ^ This includes adding significant coverage to articles needing it, and expanding unreferenced articles
  9. ^ No consensus closures do not affect the percentages.
  10. ^ This only includes articles which had no prior sources of significant coverage.
  11. ^ For articles that begin with over 300 bytes of prose, the requirement will be a five-fold expansion of readable prose.
