Krofne

This name came from the German language (beignets) it can be filled with different jams such as: butter, jelly, nutella, cinnamon and a various amounts of fruit. Krafne (plural) Also known as prokladnice. Similar to the Boston Cream Pie doughnuts.

They are airy filled doughnuts.

They are similar to beignets, oliebollen (Dutch) and pączki (Polish).

The dough is kneaded and prepared and then cut into small pieces then made into a little ball, making it easier to cook and it has a nicer form.

They can be served at special occasions such as Easter, Christmas and are given to Trick o Treaters on Halloween. In Croatia they are eaten on New Year's Day as a sign of good luck and prosperity.
