I've moved the rest of the images. There are no more images under DSC or dsc on EN WP. We still have User:Chzz/img0511 and User:Chzz/pic0511, or one of the other listings on the MediaWiki:Filename-prefix-blacklist.

List of all images which begin with the letters "DSC", as of 01:18, 18 March 2011 (UTC) - 1304 files.

SELECT concat ('* [[:File:',page_title,']]',CHAR(13)) from page where page_title like 'DSC%' and page_namespace = 6 ;

Anyone can help in renaming the files below. Follow the simple directions provided:

For users without administrator or Filemover permissions

First, check if the file needs to be deleted or not per the deletion policy or speedy deletion policy. (It makes no sense to move if the file is likely to be deleted.)

If the file should not be deleted, then see if it can be moved to Wikimedia Commons.

  • Add {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}} on top of the file page.
    • Alternatively, if you use the Move-to-Commons assistant, you can use that to upload to Commons under a new, more descriptive name.
    • After uploading to Commons, tag the file on Wikipedia for speedy deletion (WP:CSD#F8) by adding {{db-f8|CommonsFileName.jpg}} (without "File:" extension) on top of the file page, and an administrator will delete the file on Wikipedia.

If the file should not be moved to Commons, or you have not moved the file to Commons yourself, then request a rename of the file.

  • Add {{rename media|NewName.jpg|Title is a generic name taken from a Sony camera and needs to be renamed to a more descriptive title.}} (without "File:" extension) on the top of the file's page. If good, then an administrator will move the file to that new name.
Administrator or filemover guidelines
  • If you are going to move the file to Commons or within Wikipedia without redirect, please make sure all links to the file are appropriately changed and updated before moving.
  • Please look here for files already copied to Commons to delete and again rename first on en.wiki pages if needed. (Admin's only)
Can't identify the subject of a file?

If the file is missing a description, do a little bit of detective work! Check the image links - scroll to the bottom of the page, and see if the image is used in any articles. The caption in the article or other text may help you identify the subject. If the file isn't used in any articles, it might be worth checking 'What links here', which can be found at the left of your screen. Still nothing? Check the uploader's contribs - if they have only edited one or two articles, as long with the image upload, this may provide further clues. Check to see if they inserted the image into an article previously - even if it has been removed, you could try and find its caption in the article's history.

If all else fails, add {{Description missing}}, and add {{subst:add-desc-I|1=Example.jpg}} (replacing Example.jpg with the files name, ommitting the File: prefix) to the uploader's talk page.
