Do I think it is needed? Depends on what is covered in sources. I would hardly expect a film like that to have proper scholarly material written about it, so it would likely just be fluff anyway. If it was largely fluff then best to avoid it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:15, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Grave of the fireflies

Hi, Dr. Blofeld. I hope you read the mail i sent you. If not, that's fine. I've completed watching Grave of the fireflies in one go again today (after completing it in parts yesterday). To be frank, unlike the pleasant Late Spring and the spiritually magnificent Ugetsu, Grave of the fireflies is a ruthlessly disturbing and heartbreaking film. I liked it, Dr. Blofeld. It is indeed a great film. But the effect of this drama can be more traumatising. I mean, the wrath of the nature on innocent children was something pricky and disturbing. I rated it four out of five that night, though a single flow is prompting me to give it a half more. As i said to you last time, Great films always will not let you smile. In the films i watched in your suggestions, Ugetsu stands in the top followed by Late Spring and Grave of the fireflies in terms of cinematic experience. Half done with Rosemary's Baby, i loved its cinematography. The concept is nice and i aim to complete it today. I know that Doctor. The first few minutes did give me some idea of the content. I too rated it high because it was a great film, a thought presented well. If you want a good comedy try The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!. It has more laughs a minute than any film I can think of. Surprised that Sven hasn't see than one yet, it's funnier than any of the Steve Martin stuff! All three from the Naked Gun trilogy are worth watching, thought the second one is weaker. There's a lot of parodies in them, from the pottery love scene in Ghost to Escape from Alcatraz (in the third one).♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:08, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

The Naked Gun ones like the Back to the Future ones I've probably seen more times than most ones. They're those sorts of films you can watch again and again and not grow tired of them. Thanks for reminding. Yes, the climax of the film was its Achilles Heel and more intriguing writing could have made it a greater cinematic experience. Perhaps the writer reached "etc" (end of thinking capacity) :p. Otherwise, it is one of the best thrillers i've seen in my life and i thank you for recommending it. Having watched it in a series of five parts, i want to watch it in a flow at one go tomorrow morning so that i can rate it appropriately (either a four or five) and strike it off. Haha! What actually disappointed me is that how Rosemary believed the words of Roman and smiles after being such petrified, annoyed and livid at Guy's words. I liked this film mainly because of Rama Rao's performance. It was something different to see him play a short-tempered Shiva instead of the gentle, subdued portrayals of Rama and Krishna. Most of the film was quite subdued and Shiva too is peaceful most of the times. It is only after Sati's suicide, Shiva gets enraged fully. That was the most engaging part of the film IMHO. Wish i was successful in making it a GA, but due to lack of information, i failed to make it at least a somewhat better one. All my old film GAs began only when i failed to procure information on Dakshayagnam, mainly Pathala Bhairavi. I felt the latter can never be developed. But, the tables were turned. Period! Your edit here made me laugh aloud. I am not so sure about the economic backgrounds of others, but i am surely not a rich young Indian. Because of the wikibreak situations, i cannot participate in an editathon like that with enthusiasm, that's the point. But others may do, who knows? Inglorious Basterds aside you wouldn't miss much not seeing Kill Bill and TH8 in all honesty. They're pretty average IMO. Jackie Brown on the otherhand is masterful. No, but will be seeing Marriage of Maria next week sometime. Tarantino has flashes of brilliance but IMO is a wildly overrated director. The true brilliant directors are the ones in which every or most scenes reflect their genius, look at Kubrick, Tarkovsky, Wilder or Lynch for instance. You may want to get Questia if you don't already have it. Much of what's been added to Smalls Paradise comes from the books at Questia. Will see Anbe Sivam later in the week when you watch Ugetsu! You need to see it twice really though to get what is going on. The women who meet him at the market are ghosts as is the guy they meet on the boat, as is his wife when she emerges from the building after being raped/killed. Always think that people in the film might be ghosts and you'll get it more! The ending in particular will really spook you! Yes, it was masterful the way one suspect being interviewed led to another suspect and some of the flashbacks. I think Hitchcock would really have liked it!

The Public Enemy had a very controversial grapefruit scene, and Taxi! contains a visit to a film within a film and a reference to other films of the period. Spot on, yes. You need to know what happens to the characters first before you can watch it and truly appreciate what happens. Really it needs to be seen at least three times to really see it as one of the best films. Ugetsu and Anbe Sivam

Such a great cinematic product, Doc!! Not just the ending, but the whole film kind of spooked me, especially with the film score supporting it. The parts where Genjuro learns the truth about Wasaka an Miyagi's fates and her nurse is spine-chilling! It's chilling right now! I don't really think Ohama was killed (gang-raped like Jodie Foster in The Accused I think, but definitely the guy on the boat, the noblewoman ordering pottery from Genjuro are all ghosts.) Kind of like The Sixth Sense in period Japan, eh? After watching this film, my faith in god increased even more (Depsite the communist talk and atheism of Kamal's character, he is indirectly being a servant of god by being a do-gooder to the downtrodden (the 910 Rs. Salary bit). The comic intro with Maddy and Haasan, the street play, the train accident, and the transporting of the injured boy to a hospital for blood donation are my most favourites). Hi Dr B, just wondering whether you have any ideas about how to monitor the scoring of the photography for Awaken the Dragon. At the moment I've suggested the photographer posts a tiny thumbnail and signature next to the relevant entry in the Missing photograph hotlist. That will allow someone (me/you/ANOther?) to review the entry and move it to a 'Done' list (I guess the new photo can be added to a list at the bottom of the hotlist, and added to the relevant participant's list on Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Entries if applicable). Hi Sionk. All articles and photographs are to be posted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Entries under the relative name. For photos just link the file and add a : at the beginning to stop it showing. When you list the photographs like with the articles you have to claim what points you're looking for like +40 top priority and I'll tot them up and approve and add the points to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Scoreboard. Perhaps you could update the photograph page with instructions to this effect? I've been working on Welsh ships since I got the invite a few weeks ago and nominated the finished ones for GA. Rather to my surprise, given the normal backlog of GANs, a couple have already been promoted. Are they still eligible even though they were promoted just recently? Hi Sturmvogel 66, according to the rules all work has to be submitted between April 1 and May 1. By submitted I mean posted on wikipedia, I'll make that clearer if you like. If you've already submitted work and they are already GA before the contest they won't count unfortunately. If you could let me know which ones you worked on though I'll add them to the main board as GAs and they will be recognized as entries in the overall editathon, OK?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:50, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Shoot, that's what I was afraid of. You should probably clarify the wording as "submitted" is kinda ambiguous for somebody like me who normally works solely in mainspace, given the multiple edits usually necessary for a significant expansion, although I gather that you're saying that edits in user space don't count until they're moved to mainspace. The rules for the WikiCup might be useful as a guide for clarification.

No-one has ever recreated the magic of the shorts from the Hanna-Barbera era (1940-1958), not even Hanna-Barbera themselves (evident from the 1975 series). Co-ords for Nelson's Pillar

Do you know the best way to accurately source co-ords? I'm asking because this edit changed the co-ords slightly compared to this edit. Am asking you first, but maybe others might know as well? Carcharoth (talk) 21:30, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Sourcing coordinates? Mmm, not something I generally do! If it's a listed building in a town article I might include it in the reference to the listed building site. 1970s movie lobby cards and posters

I just found out that ebay has a lot of lobby cards right here for instance. You can create a picture of the lobby card on commons and place it into your "Great Films" page if you like to. I've just uploaded a lobby card file of Heaven Can Wait on commons. I've seen it of course, but I think it was because originally it was meant to be strictly great films, and Suspicion is not one of them in my opinion. It's OK, but not great. Spot on, Doc. In one of Grant's biographies (Eliot I believe), it said he hated Fontaine as he found her quite wooden as well as demanding on sets. She really didn't deserve the Best Actress Award IMO. But, I really found Grant's performance quite powerful and different considering at that time he was beginning to get typecast in comedies. As for Mr. and Mrs. Smith (which was OK really), Hitch did it as a favour to Lombard and, of course, was a departure from his thrillers.  — Ssven2 ^{Speak 2 me} 08:42, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Just watched Don't Look Now. Mysteriously and eerily frightening egg! Sutherland was incredible in it. Personally, The Hunger Games films are a sad waste of his talent. Now, go and watch some KB. Sure, you can sign up and work on Burton if you like, that would be great! I had intended working on him soon anyway. He was born 37 miles away from where I live! A fascinating guy and if you really watch him in films like Becket, Virginia Wolff and Look Back in Anger undoubtedly one of the greatest actors to ever appear on screen. Massively underrated because he didn't care about his career really. It's a pity we can't stretch the border a bit around Bristol to include Cary Grant in this though haha! Becket and Virginia Woolf are some of his best performances. You're right too. Massively underrated. Another classic actor who too, is massively underrated, is Jeremy Irons. To me, he captures the flair that Olivier had (He even looks a bit like him!). Possess a more baritone voice (like Big B). I've yet to see his Reversal of Fortune and Damage though. Have been meaning to watch High Plains Drifter. Will do so. As for films from '73, Gauravam comes to mind. You'll feel ROFL looking at Sivaji's overacting as the old barrister. :-D Another KB film, Sollathaan Ninaikkiren is worth a watch, though I haven't seen it yet. Bobby and Yaadon Ki Baaraat are famous Hindi films to watch (haven't seen them yet as well). Wales biographical dictionary

FYI, this source [1] would be great for starting many Wales-related biographies. It's pre-1923 so PD in the US but possibly not PD in the UK given that T[homas] Mardy Rees died in 1953.[2] I'm not sure what our policy is about incorporating text that may not be PD in the country of origin.
