Incumbent Council control

No Overall Control

The 2024 Bristol City Council election is scheduled to be held on Thursday 2 May 2024,[1] alongside the other local elections in the United Kingdom, which are being held on the same day.[2] It will elect all 70 councillors to the Bristol City Council for a four-year term.[2]

The Labour Party, Conservative Party, Green Party and Liberal Democrats all stood full slates of 70 candidates. There were also NUMBER candidates from the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) and NUMBER independent candidates, as well as a single SDP candidate. Unlike at the previous election, Reform UK and Burning Pink did not stand any candidates.[3]

These are the first council elections being held since the position of Mayor of Bristol was abolished after a 2022 referendum saw 59% of voters in favour of replacing the mayoral system with a committee system.

Background[edit]

At the previous election, which was held in 2021, Labour lost 13 seats, meaning that the council fell under no overall control.[4][5]
