Apple never intended to sell the Apple TV under the name iTV. When Steve Jobs introduced the Apple TV, the screen behind him did indeed show iTV, but Steve Jobs said that it was an internal code name, that they did not intend to ship the product with the code name, and that they had not yet decided on the final name. Various bloggers were obsessed with iTV, even despite comments that corrected them. In fact, I commented on an article about the imaginary Apple iTV. The author admitted that iTV was not and would not ever be the name of the product, but justified using it because everyone else was doing it. (It's a good thing that everyone else wasn't jumping off a cliff.) As a result, the British company iTV took preemptive measures to make sure Apple did not use that name. Apparently no one was listening carefully to Steve Job's presentation.
