XSketch is a browser-based real-time multiplayer word sketch game. It is programmed in Adobe Flash, Java, AJAX, and GWT. Gameplay is similar to Pictionary where you sketch a picture with the goal of having other players guess your word and vice versa.
Gameplay[edit]
[1] XSketch is a turn-based game for up to 7 players on each table. To join a table, the player must click the green "Sit in" button at the top-left hand side of the table. Going in a clockwise direction, each player will get a chance to sketch a randomly chosen word or phrase from a database of 12045 (as of 30th September, 2010). At the beginning of each sketch, the sketcher contributes 4*(n-1) points to the pot (n being the number of players at the table at the beginning of the sketching phase), every other player contributes 4 points to the pot. The sketcher can opt to pass the word if he/she believes it to be too difficult, and lose all the points he/she has contributed in that round. The sketcher must, within a certain time limit (approximately 90 seconds), sketch out the word or phrase without using letters, symbols or numbers (However, the use of numbers and symbols have become much more tolerated). As for other player(s), they must attempt to guess the word or phrase for which the sketcher is attempting to sketch. If the guesser suspect the sketcher of cheating, by, for example, writing letters on the sketching area, then the guesser can press the "Warn" button. If more than half the guessers have warned the sketcher, the sketch is ended and the next person on the table will sketch, the pot will carry on to the next sketcher. The winning guesser is the player who correctly enters the correct word or phrase. The sketcher and winning guesser will win half the pot each. If no one guesses correctly, then the pot carry on to the next sketcher.
Ranking System[edit]
At the beginning of each month the score of every player is reset to zero. At the end of each month, the player with the highest score is the winner for that month, and wins a gold medal, which will be displayed in the player's profile. The second highest scoring player that month will receive a silver medal, and the third will receive a bronze medal. Players ranked 4-25th that month will receive a blue medal, whereas players ranked 26-100 will receive a white medal. [2]
Apart from monthly rankings, Xsketch also has a career ranking, listing the top 250 highest accumulated scoring players of all time.
